Chromosomal localization of the human retinoid X receptors.
The recently described retinoid X receptors (RXRs) respond to the novel retinoid 9-cis-retinoic acid and also serve as heterodimeric partners for the vitamin D, thyroid hormone, and retinoic acid receptors (VDR, TR, and RAR, respectively).

Retinoid X receptors in macrophage biology [PDF]
Retinoid X receptors (RXRs) form a distinct and unique subclass within the nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily of ligand-dependent transcription factors. RXRs regulate a plethora of genetic programs, including cell differentiation, the immune response, and lipid and glucose metabolism.

International Union of Pharmacology. LXIII. Retinoid X Receptors
Pharmacological Reviews, 2006The physiological effects of retinoic acids (RAs) are mediated by members of two families of nuclear receptors, the retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and the retinoid X receptors (RXRs), which are encoded by three distinct human genes, RXRalpha, RXRbeta, and RXRgamma.

Retinoid X receptors and retinoid response in neuroblastoma cells
Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2002AbstractRetinoic acid (RA) modulates differentiation and apoptosis of neural cells via RA receptors (RARs) and retinoid X receptors (RXRs). Neuroblastoma cells are potentially useful models for elucidating the molecular mechanisms of RA in neural cells, and responses to different isomers of RA have been interpreted in terms of differential homo‐ and ...

Retinoids Selective for Retinoid X Receptor Response Pathways
Science, 1992Retinoids have a broad spectrum of biological activities and are useful therapeutic agents. Their physiological activities are mediated by two types of receptors, the retinoic acid receptors (RARs) and the retinoid X receptors (RXRs). RARs, as well as several related receptors, require heterodimerization with RXRs for effective DNA binding

Identification of an Activator of the Retinoid X Receptor
Journal of Natural Products, 1994A metabolite of all-trans retinoic acid produced by insect cells was discovered to activate the intracellular retinoic acid X receptor. The compound, beta-glucopyranosyl 9-cis-retinoate [1], was purified and its structure was determined by analysis of spectroscopic data.
