detectEVE: Fast, Sensitive and Precise Detection of Endogenous Viral Elements in Genomic Data

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 4, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Endogenous viral elements (EVEs) are fragments of viral genomic material embedded within the host genome. Retroviruses contribute to the majority of EVEs because of their genomic integration during their life cycle; however, the latter can also arise from non‐retroviral RNA or DNA viruses, then collectively known as non‐retroviral (nr) EVEs ...

Cutaneous adverse drug reaction in Human Immunodeficiency virus patient associated with antiviral therapy: A retrospective study

open access: yesDermatology Reports, 2019
Drug hypersensitivity reactions specifically cutaenous adverse drug reaction (CADR) occur at higher rate in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)- positive patients than general population and cause significant morbidity, in early era of antiretroviral ...

Retrovirus Vectors: Toward the Plentivirus?

open access: yesMolecular Therapy, 2006
Recombinant retroviral vectors based upon simple gammaretroviruses, complex lentiviruses, or potentially nonpathogenic spumaviruses represent relatively well characterized tools that are widely used for stable gene transfer. Different members of the Retroviridae family have developed distinct and potentially useful features related to their life cycle.

Age and Sex Effects on Blood Retrotransposable Element Expression Levels: Findings From the Population‐Based Rhineland Study

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Retrotransposable element (RTE) expression increases with chronological and biological age and is negatively associated with heterochromatin regulators. Moreover, RTE expression shows sex‐specific differences, with higher levels in men and enrichment for immune‐related pathways.

Identification of a novel retroviral gene unique to human immunodeficiency virus type 2 and simian immunodeficiency virus SIVMAC [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Human and simian immunodeficiency-associated retroviruses are extraordinarily complex, containing at least five genes, tat, art, sor, R, and 3' orf, in addition to the structural genes gag, pol, and env.

hTERT Increases TRF2 to Induce Telomere Compaction and Extend Cell Replicative Lifespan

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
In contrast to the dogma that a subset of short telomeres initiates senescence, hTERT variants unable to maintain telomere length block senescence by stabilizing TRF2 via inhibiting upstream E3 ubiquitin ligases. This noncanonical hTERT function also compacts telomeres and blocks senescence‐associated DNA damage signaling. Cancer cells expressing hTERT

Engineered nanoparticles potentials in male reproduction

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 13, Issue 4, Page 694-705, May 2025.
Abstract Background The escalating prevalence of fertility problems in the aging population necessitates a comprehensive exploration of contributing factors, extending beyond environmental concerns, work‐related stress, and unhealthy lifestyles. Among these, the rising incidence of testicular disorders emerges as a pivotal determinant of fertility ...
