Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Activities of Biogenic Nanoparticles Produced by Cyanobacteria

open access: yesChemBioChem, Volume 27, Issue 5, 13 March 2026.
The article reviews the green synthesis of biogenic nanoparticles produced by cyanobacteria, highlighting their antimicrobial and cytotoxic properties. These nanoparticles, formed intra‐ or extracellularly, show activity against Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria as well as fungi and can induce apoptosis in tumor cells.

Application of ZnO-nanoparticles to manage Rhizopus soft rot of sweet potato and prolong shelf-life

open access: yesFolia Horticulturae, 2019
A reduction in crop spoilage and an increase in shelf-life is the goal of effective disease control methods. This study aimed to assess ZnO-nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) as a safe, new protectant against Rhizopus soft rot of sweet potato.

Rhizopus Soft Rot on Citrus Fruit Caused by Rhizopus stolonifer in Korea

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Mycology, 2002
A fruits soft rot caused by Rhizopus stolonifer found on citrus fruit in Jinjn City Agricultural Products Wholesale Market. The disease infection usually started from wounding. At first, the lesions started water soaked and rapidly softened and diseased lesion gradually expanded to other fruits in the same container.

Biodegradable Coatings with Essential Oils for Combating Papaya Anthracnose: State of the Art and Perspectives

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, Volume 5, Issue 1, Page 138-151, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Papaya (Carica papaya L.) production and marketability are strongly constrained by postharvest diseases, with anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum spp. representing the most significant threat. Traditional control relies on synthetic fungicides, which, although effective, face challenges such as the development of pathogen resistance ...

Demystifying fungal systematics: A gateway to fungal literacy and societal/ecological relevance through familiar species

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 2, Page 499-515, March 2026.
Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

Enhancing Wholemeal Bread Shelf Life Using Optimized Mixtures of Cinnamon, Clove, and Bay Leaf Essential Oils

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the preservative potential of essential oils (EOs) in bakery products by identifying fungal contaminants in bread, testing the in vitro antifungal activity of a mixture of cinnamon, clove, and bay leaf EOs, and assessing their effectiveness in extending shelf life. Fungal identification revealed the presence of Penicillium,
