Riboflavin - properties, occurrence and its use in medicine
Riboflavin is built on an isoalloxazin ring, which contains three sixcarbon rings: benzoic, pyrazine and pyrimidine. Riboflavin is synthesized by some bacteria, but among humans and animals, the only source of flavin coenzymes (FAD, FMN) is exogenous ...

Phototherapy via Modulation of β‐Amyloid in Combating Alzheimer's Disease
This review introduces the light‐regulated Aβ aggregation, highlighting four applications: photodynamic therapy (PDT), photothermal therapy (PTT), photopharmacology, and photobiomodulation (PBM) systems. It also summarizes the current issues and proposes the prospects of photo‐induced modulation of Aβ aggregation and clearance as a therapeutic strategy

Mapping and validation of major and stable QTL for flag leaf size from tetraploid wheat
Abstract The flag leaf is an important photosynthetic organ of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). Appropriate flag leaf size can effectively increase grain yield. In this study, a tetraploid wheat population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) and a genetic map constructed based on a wheat 55K single‐nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array were used to identify ...

Reaction of the NAD(P)H:flavin oxidoreductase from Escherichia coli with NADPH and riboflavin: identification of intermediates [PDF]
Flavin reductase catalyzes the reduction of free flavins by NAD(P)H. As isolated, Escherichia coli flavin reductase does not contain any flavin prosthetic group but accommodates both the reduced pyridine nucleotide and the flavin substrate in a ternary complex prior to oxidoreduction.

Biosynthesis of riboflavin: an unusual riboflavin synthase of Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum [PDF]
Riboflavin synthase was purified by a factor of about 1,500 from cell extract of Methanobacterium thermoautotrophicum. The enzyme had a specific activity of about 2,700 nmol mg(-1) h(-1) at 65 degrees C, which is relatively low compared to those of riboflavin synthases of eubacteria and yeast.

Modulation of riboflavin biosynthesis and utilization in mycobacteria
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is the precursor of the flavin coenzymes, FAD and FMN, which play a central role in cellular redox metabolism. While humans must obtain riboflavin from dietary sources, certain microbes, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb),

Atomic Structures of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) and its Reduced Form with Bond Lengths Based on Additivity of Atomic Radii [PDF]
It has been shown recently that chemical bond lengths, in general, like those in the components of nucleic acids, caffeine related compounds, all essential amino acids, methane, benzene, graphene and fullerene are sums of the radii of adjacent atoms constituting the bond.

Riboflavin as a promising antimicrobial agent? A multi-perspective review
Riboflavin, or more commonly known as vitamin B2, forms part of the component of vitamin B complex. Riboflavin consisting of two important cofactors, flavin mononucleotide (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), which are involved in multiple ...
