Mechanisms of HIV-1 Nucleocapsid Protein Inhibition by Lysyl-Peptidyl-Anthraquinone Conjugates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Nucleocapsid protein NCp7 (NC) is a nucleic acid chaperone responsible for essential steps of the HIV-1 life cycle and an attractive candidate for drug development.

Ribonuclease S redux [PDF]

open access: yesChem. Commun., 2011
The S-peptide and S-protein components of bovine pancreatic ribonuclease form a noncovalent complex with restored ribonucleolytic activity. Although this archetypal protein-fragment complementation system has been the object of historic work in protein chemistry, intrinsic limitations compromise its utility.

Surveillance of Tumour Development: The Relationship Between Tumour-Associated RNAs and Ribonucleases

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2019
Tumour progression is accompanied by rapid cell proliferation, loss of differentiation, the reprogramming of energy metabolism, loss of adhesion, escape of immune surveillance, induction of angiogenesis, and metastasis.

An improved method for high-quality RNA isolation from needles of adult maritime pine trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Conventional RNA isolation methods optimised for pine seedlings have been shown to produce poor quality RNA when applied to needles of adult pine trees.

Hirsutellin A: A Paradigmatic Example of the Insecticidal Function of Fungal Ribotoxins

open access: yesInsects, 2013
The fungal pathogen Hirsutella thompsonii produces an insecticidal protein named hirsutellin A (HtA), which has been described to be toxic to several species of mites, insect larvae, and cells.

The structure of Rph, an exoribonuclease from Bacillus anthracis, at 1.7 angstrom resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Maturation of tRNA precursors into functional tRNA molecules requires trimming of the primary transcript at both the 5' and 3' ends. Cleavage of nucleotides from the 3' stem of tRNA precursors, releasing nucleotide diphosphates, is accomplished in ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Decay-Initiating Endoribonucleolytic Cleavage by RNase Y Is Kept under Tight Control via Sequence Preference and Sub-cellular Localisation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2015
Bacteria depend on efficient RNA turnover, both during homeostasis and when rapidly altering gene expression in response to changes. Nevertheless, remarkably few details are known about the rate-limiting steps in targeting and decay of RNA.

The 3’-5’ exoribonuclease Dis3 regulates the expression of specific microRNAs in Drosophila wing imaginal discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Dis3 is a highly conserved exoribonuclease which degrades RNAs in the 3'-5' direction. Mutations in Dis3 are associated with a number of human cancers including multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukaemia.
