The Pathogenesis of Rift Valley Fever

open access: yesViruses, 2011
Rift Valley fever (RVF) is an emerging zoonotic disease distributed in sub-Saharan African countries and the Arabian Peninsula. The disease is caused by the Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) of the family Bunyaviridae and the genus Phlebovirus. The virus is

Inhibitory effects of bioactive molecules against nonstructural protein (NSs) of Rift Valley Fever Virus (RVFv): A molecular modeling study

open access: yesHeliyon
Rift Valley fever (RVF), a vector-borne zoonotic disease caused by the Rift Valley Fever Virus arbovirus (RVFv), has had a significant impact on livestock and poses a risk to human health. This RNA virus belongs to the Bunyaviridae family of the genus Phlebovirus. Limited treatment options are available for this mosquito-borne RVF disease.

Interepidemic Rift Valley Fever Virus Seropositivity, Northeastern Kenya

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
Most outbreaks of Rift Valley fever (RVF) occur in remote locations after floods. To determine environmental risk factors and long-term sequelae of human RVF, we examined rates of previous Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) exposure by age and location ...

Survey of Rift Valley Fever Virus Antibodies and Risk Factors in Small Ruminants in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria: A Cross-Sectional Serological Study. [PDF]

open access: yesVet Med Sci
High seroprevalence of Rift Valley fever virus antibodies (47.9%) in small ruminants in Maiduguri indicates substantial past exposure. Age, sex, and residence in flood‐prone areas were significant risk factors, highlighting the need for targeted surveillance and vector control to reduce livestock and public health impacts.

Paving the way for human vaccination against Rift Valley fever virus: A systematic literature review of RVFV epidemiology from 1999 to 2021 [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2021
Background Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a lethal threat to humans and livestock in many parts of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Indian Ocean. This systematic review’s objective was to consolidate understanding of RVFV epidemiology during 1999–2021 and highlight knowledge gaps relevant to plans for ...

Natural hosts and animal models for Rift Valley fever phlebovirus

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2023
Rift Valley fever phlebovirus (RVFV) is a zoonotic mosquito-transmitted arbovirus, presenting a serious threat to humans and animals. Susceptible hosts are of great significance for the prevention of RVFV.

Rift Valley Fever and Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Viruses in Ruminants, Jordan

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2021
The epidemiology of Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) in Jordan is unknown. Our investigation showed 3% of 989 tested dairy cattle, sheep, and goats were RVFV seropositive and 14% were CCHFV seropositive ...

Mycoplasma Contamination Alters the Expression Profile of Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines by Human Innate Immune Cells. [PDF]

open access: yesCell Biochem Funct
ABSTRACT The impact of Mycoplasma contaminations on in vitro test systems has been extensively discussed and in vitro studies have demonstrated various effects on the physiology of the contaminated cell line. Thus far, little is known about the effect of biologically active substances, such as viruses produced in contaminated cell lines on primary ...

A single immunization with MVA expressing GnGc glycoproteins promotes epitope-specific CD8+-T cell activation and protects immune-competent mice against a lethal RVFV infection. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2013
BACKGROUND: Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a mosquito-borne pathogen causing an important disease in ruminants often transmitted to humans after epizootic outbreaks in African and Arabian countries.
