Analysis of Innovative Two-Span Suspension Bridges

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2015
Recently, two-span, or the so-called single pylon suspension bridges, due to their constructing structure, have been widely applied. A reduction in deformation seems to be the main problem of the behaviour and design of such bridges.

Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Hawaii Deep Water Cable (HDWC) Program : cable overloadability study

open access: yes, 1986
The scope of this study is to determine the short term overload capability of Cable No. 116 in the event of the loss of one pole of the dc transmission system. Such a loss would result in the loss of 250 MW of transmitted power. This exceeds the spinning

Rigid-Flexible Coupling Dynamics Modeling of Spatial Crank-Slider Mechanism Based on Absolute Node Coordinate Formulation

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
In order to study the influence of compliance parts on spatial multibody systems, a rigid-flexible coupling dynamic equation of a spatial crank-slider mechanism is established based on the finite element method.

Materials‐Driven Additive Manufacturing for Electrical Machines: Qualification‐Oriented Design Beyond Geometric Freedom

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective reframes additive manufacturing for electrical machines as a qualification‐limited materials and architecture design problem. It links process–structure–property–performance relationships to magnetic, conducting, dielectric, and thermal property windows, highlighting where AM can enable segmented magnetic circuits, permanent magnet ...

Simplified Engineering Method of Suspension Bridges With Rigid Cables Under Action of Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Loads

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2006
The basic disadvantage of suspension bridges can be considered their increased deformability. One of the ways to increase the rigidity of a suspension bridge is to transfer a part of stiffening girder rigidity to a suspension cable.

Barriers and potentially safe sets in hybrid systems: Pendulum with non-rigid cable [PDF]

open access: yesAutomatica, 2016
This paper deals with an application of the notion of barrier in mixed constrained nonlinear systems to an example of a pendulum mounted on a cart with non-rigid cable, whose dynamics may switch to free-fall when the tension of the cable vanishes. We present a direct construction of the boundary of the potentially safe set in which there always exists ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Learning-based cable coupling effect modeling for robotic manipulation of heavy industrial cables

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The robotic manipulation of a heavy industrial cable is challenging to model and control because of the high number of degrees of freedom and the rigid-flexible coupling dynamics.

Spatial Rigid-Flexible-Liquid Coupling Dynamics of Towed System Analyzed by a Hamiltonian Finite Element Method

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
An effective Hamiltonian finite element method is presented in this paper to investigate the three-dimensional dynamic responses of a towed cable-payload system with large deformation.
