The 5' untranslated region of the I factor, a long interspersed nuclear element-like retrotransposon of Drosophila melanogaster, contains an internal promoter and sequences that regulate expression [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The I-R system of hybrid dysgenesis in Drosophila melanogaster is controlled by a long interspersed nuclear element-like retroposon, the I factor.

Sequences at the 3′ Untranslated Region of Bamboo Mosaic Potexvirus RNA Interact with the Viral RNA-Dependent RNA Polymerase [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Virology, 2001
ABSTRACT The 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of bamboo mosaic potexvirus (BaMV) genomic RNA was found to fold into a series of stem-loop structures including a pseudoknot structure. These structures were demonstrated to be important for viral RNA replication and were believed to be recognized by the replicase (C.-P.

Mouse thymidylate synthase messenger RNA lacks a 3' untranslated region. [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1986
Analysis of the sequence of cDNA corresponding to mouse thymidylate synthase (5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate:dUMP C-methyltransferase, EC 2.1.1.45) mRNA revealed that the termination codon TAA was followed immediately by a poly(A) sequence. This raised the possibility that mouse thymidylate synthase mRNA lacks a 3' untranslated region.

Panicum Mosaic Virus and Its Satellites Acquire RNA Modifications Associated with Host-Mediated Antiviral Degradation

open access: yesmBio, 2019
Positive-sense RNA viruses in the Tombusviridae family have genomes lacking a 5′ cap structure and prototypical 3′ polyadenylation sequence. Instead, these viruses utilize an extensive network of intramolecular RNA-RNA interactions to direct viral ...

SARS coronavirus nsp1 protein induces template-dependent endonucleolytic cleavage of mRNAs: viral mRNAs are resistant to nsp1-induced RNA cleavage. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2011
SARS coronavirus (SCoV) nonstructural protein (nsp) 1, a potent inhibitor of host gene expression, possesses a unique mode of action: it binds to 40S ribosomes to inactivate their translation functions and induces host mRNA degradation.

Cryptic transcripts from a ubiquitous plasmid origin of replication confound tests for cis-regulatory function. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A vast amount of research on the regulation of gene expression has relied on plasmid reporter assays. In this study, we show that plasmids widely used for this purpose constitutively produce substantial amounts of RNA from a TATA-containing cryptic ...

Progress on the regulation of malignant biological behavior of glioma by HMGB1 gene

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery
Glioma is often recurred after standard treatment due to its complex biological characteristics and the presence of glioma stem cells (GSCs). High -mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) can regulate the malignant progression of glioma through a variety of ways as

microRNAs Mediated Regulation of the Ribosomal Proteins and its Consequences on the Global Translation of Proteins

open access: yesCells, 2021
Ribosomal proteins (RPs) are mostly derived from the energy-consuming enzyme families such as ATP-dependent RNA helicases, AAA-ATPases, GTPases and kinases, and are important structural components of the ribosome, which is a supramolecular ...

Development of a minigenome cassette for Lettuce necrotic yellows virus: A first step in rescuing a plant cytorhabdovirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Rhabdoviruses are enveloped negative-sense RNA viruses that have numerous biotechnological applications. However, recovering plant rhabdoviruses from cDNA remains difficult due to technical difficulties such as the need for concurrent in planta ...
