Analysis of RNA Editing in Plastids
Methods, 1998Chloroplast mRNAs can be subject to posttranscriptional pyrimidine-to-pyrimidine conversions at highly specific sites. This RNA modification mechanism shows a high degree of similarity to plant mitochondrial editing but differs markedly from, and is most likely evolutionarily unrelated to, all other RNA editing systems.

Abstract RNA editing can also be called ‘nucleotide substitution’-insertions or deletions made in the RNA sequence. Typically, deleterious changes that have occurred in DNA are restored at the RNA level by this process. The origins of the known forms of RNA editing in various organismic lineages are probably independent.

Abstract RNA Editing devotes a chapter to each of the major types of this form of RNA processing. Each chapter is written by a leader in the field and offers fundamental principles, as well as up to date information on recent advances. Numerous examples of RNAs known to be edited are provided throughout the volume, but most importantly ...
