Ribosomal RNA precursors in plants

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1970
Abstract A high molecular weight, rapidly-labelled ribosomal RNA precursor in the pearoot tip and in artichoke-tuber tissue is described. It has a molecular weight, determined by polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis, of about 2.3 × 10 6 daltons. The pea precursor RNA consists of two components which can just be distinguished by gel electrophoresis ...

Characterization of the ribosomal RNA precursor in Ilyanassa

Experimental Cell Research, 1972
Abstract Ilyanassa embryos synthesized a high molecular weight, rapidly-labeled RNA species that, as time progressed, diminished in proportion to increasing amounts of nascent ribosomal RNA. We tentatively identify this rapidly-labeled RNA species as the ribosomal RNA precursor.

Multiple conformations of ribosomal precursor RNA

Nature, 1975
WE wish to propose an explanation for the heterogeneity shown1 by ribosomal precursor RNAs on gel electrophoresis. The clearest demonstration of this phenomenon is shown in Fig. 1. 32P-labelled RNA was eluted from single gel slices taken across the peak, and rerun in the presence of 3H-labelled marker.

Photochemistry of RNA, RNA Monomers, and Plausible Prebiotic Precursors

2023
Sunlight is the primary source of energy to promote change on Earth. In this context, ultraviolet radiation can be thought as a catalyst of chemical change to refine chemical feedstocks and facilitate their transformations into the building blocks of life. To establish reasonable environmental constraints for the chemical origins of life, it is central

Speculation on the RNA Precursor Problem

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1997
While no convincing prebiotic synthesis of RNA building blocks has been demonstrated, at least two synthetic analogues of nucleic acids have been described whose properties are remarkably similar to those of RNA. The RNA backbone is thus not the only possible solution to the problem of replicating the information stored in a sequence of purines and ...
