Precursors of alpha and beta globin messenger RNAs

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1978
Abstract Several structural properties of the pulse-labeled globin messenger RNA precursor molecules that sediment faster than steady-state (10 S) globin mRNA (Curtis & Weissmann, 1976; Ross, 1976; Kwan et al., 1977; Bastos & Aviv, 1977) are investigated.

Precursor 16S RNA in Active 30S Ribosomes

Nature, 1974
BIOGENESIS of bacterial ribosomes proceeds through the formation of precursor particles1–4, consisting of an incomplete set of ribosomal protein5 and of RNA molecules that are longer and less methylated than mature RNA4,6,7. RNA maturation is commonly considered to be a part of the ribosome maturation process.

Methylation process of mammalian ribosomal precursor RNA

Biochimie, 1976
The analysis of RNA from L5178 Y cells, by electrophoreis in 1.7% polyacrylamide gel, after short time labelling with [methyl-3H] methionine, shows that the three molecular species 47S, 46S and 45S RNA from the ribosomal RNA "45S fraction" are methylated.

RNA editing of a miRNA precursor.

RNA (New York, N.Y.), 2004
Micro RNAs comprise a large family of small, functional RNAs with important roles in the regulation of protein coding genes in animals and plants. Here we show that human and mouse miRNA22 precursor molecules are subject to posttranscriptional modification by A-to-I RNA editing in vivo.

RNA precursor molecules and ribonucleases in E. coli

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, 1973
The post-transcriptional alteration of oneE. coli RNA species (tyrosine tRNA) by nucleases is now understood in some detail. Knowledge of this pathway has allowed us to speculate on the nature and control of the processing of otherE. coli RNA species by the combined attack of endo- and exo-nucleolytic ribonucleases. A review of the properties of knownE.

Isolation of ribosomal RNA precursors from lung

Analytical Biochemistry, 1977
Abstract A method is presented for the isolation of ribosomal RNA precursors from lung. The very labile precursors of ribosomal RNA in mouse lungs can be isolated and preserved when lung tissue (i) is frozen in liquid nitrogen and pulverized, (ii) is homogenized in hypotonic buffer, (iii) nuclei are rapidly isolated after being sieved through ...

Nucleotide Sequence and Function of Transfer RNA and Precursor Transfer RNA

1973
At present, we have to consider the functional interactions of the tRNA molecule without knowing its three-dimensional structure. Comparison of tRNA sequences has shown that they have a common hydrogen-bonded structure defined by the cloverleaf arrangement, and in addition they have certain common sequences or correlated sequences which may also be ...
