Evolutionary conundrum of RNase P: from a catalytic RNA form to a protein only enzyme form [PDF]

The consequences of replicating in the wrong orientation: Bacterial chromosome duplication without an active replication origin [PDF]
Chromosome replication is regulated in all organisms at the assembly stage of the replication machinery at specific origins. In Escherichia coli the DnaA initiator protein regulates the assembly of replication forks at oriC.

Substrate recognition and cleavage-site selection by a single-subunit protein-only RNase P
RNase P is the enzyme that removes 5′ extensions from tRNA precursors. With its diversity of enzyme forms—either protein- or RNA-based, ranging from single polypeptides to multi-subunit ribonucleoproteins—the RNase P enzyme family represents a unique ...

This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

The structure of Rph, an exoribonuclease from Bacillus anthracis, at 1.7 angstrom resolution [PDF]
Maturation of tRNA precursors into functional tRNA molecules requires trimming of the primary transcript at both the 5' and 3' ends. Cleavage of nucleotides from the 3' stem of tRNA precursors, releasing nucleotide diphosphates, is accomplished in ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Cryo-electron microscopy structure of an archaeal ribonuclease P holoenzyme
Ribonulease P is a conserved ribozyme present in all kingdoms of life that is involved in the 5′ maturation step of tRNAs. Here the authors determine the structure of an archaeal RNase P holoenzyme that reveals how archaeal RNase P recognizes its tRNA ...

Use of RNA secondary structure for evolutionary relationships : investigating RNase P and RNase MRP : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]
Bioinformatics is applied here to examine whether RNA secondary structure data can reflect distant evolutionary relationships. This is important when there is little confidence in sequence data such as when looking at the evolution of RNase MRP (MRP ...
