Dynamical Tide-modified Roche Limit in Eccentric, Asynchronous Binaries

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The Roche limit, or the threshold separation within which a celestial object (the donor) M cannot remain in a stable configuration due to a companion’s tidal field, has been well established when M is in hydrostatic equilibrium and has synchronous ...

Transiting Planetary Debris near the Roche Limit of a White Dwarf on a 4.97 hr Orbit—and its Vanishing

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the discovery of deep, irregular, periodic transits toward the white dwarf ZTF J1944+4557 using follow-up time-series photometry and spectroscopy from Palomar, Keck, McDonald, Perkins, and Lowell observatories.

Tidally Distorted Barytropes and Their Roche Limits, with Application to WASP-12b

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
Abstract The hot Jupiter WASP-12b has been found to be on a decaying 1.09 day orbit. The mean density of the planet inferred from transit and radial-velocity data is near its Roche limit; just how near depends on the planet’s uncertain internal structure. There is also spectroscopic evidence of mass loss.

Exploring the Recycling Model of Phobos Formation: Rubble-pile Satellites

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
Phobos is the target of the return sample mission Martian Moons eXploration by JAXA that will analyze in great detail the physical and compositional properties of the satellite from orbit, from the surface, and in terrestrial laboratories, giving clues ...

Comparative evaluation of two automated immunoassays for serum thyroglobulin quantification [PDF]

open access: yesKosin Medical Journal
Background We evaluated the clinical performance of in vitro diagnostic devices for quantifying thyroglobulin (Tg), which is a key marker for monitoring and treating thyroid dysfunction.

Quasi-conservative Integration Method for Restricted Three-body Problem

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
The simplest restricted three-body problem, in which two massive points and a massless point particle attract one another according to Newton’s law of inverse squares, has pulsating Hill’s regions where the massless particle moves inside the closed ...

Sensitivity of SARS-CoV-2 antibody tests with late convalescent sera

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Virology Plus, 2021
SARS-CoV-2-specific IgM antibodies wane during the first three months after infection and IgG antibody levels decline. This may limit the ability of antibody tests to identify previous SARS-CoV-2 infection at later time points.

Torsion Limits and Riemann-Roch Systems for Function Fields and Applications [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2014
The Ihara limit (or -constant) $A(q)$ has been a central problem of study in the asymptotic theory of global function fields (or equivalently, algebraic curves over finite fields). It addresses global function fields with many rational points and, so far, most applications of this theory do not require additional properties.

Performance of the Abbott Architect Immuno-Chemiluminometric NT-proBNP Assay

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2022
Background: We evaluated the performance of the Abbott N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) assay against the Roche NT-proBNP immunoassay across two sites. Methods: Precision, linearity, and sensitivity studies were performed.
