Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Beyond the barriers of the use of continuous subcutaneous insulin therapy in type 1 diabetes: a new opportunity from catheter-less insulin pumps

open access: yesAboutOpen, 2021
Although it represents a valid alternative for patients with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) with insufficient glycemic control and/or with recurrent hypoglycemia, insulin pump therapy (Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusion, CSII) in Italy is nowadays still ...

Analytical Performance of the New Sysmex High-Sensitivity Troponin T Assay

open access: yesDiagnostics
Background: We evaluated the Sysmex Highly Integrated Single-Cartridge Luminescence Immunoassay System (HISCL) hs-cTnT assay, and compared its performance to the Roche assay, with derivation of 99th-percentile upper reference limits (99% URLs) for ...

Technical and regulatory shortcomings of the TaqMan version 1 HIV viral load assay. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The lower limit of detection of the original Roche Amplicor HIV plasma viral load (pVL) assay (50 copies/mL) has defined HIV treatment success. The Amplicor assay, however, has been replaced by the Roche TaqMan assay(s).

Temporal Evolution of Serum Concentrations of High‐Sensitivity Cardiac Troponin During 1 Year After Acute Coronary Syndrome Admission

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2021
Background Detailed insights in temporal evolution of high‐sensitivity cardiac troponin following acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are currently missing. We aimed to describe and compare the post‐ACS kinetics of high‐sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs‐cTnI)

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Geodesic deviation, Raychaudhuri equation, Newtonian limit, and tidal forces in Weyl-type f(Q, T) gravity

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2021
We consider the geodesic deviation equation, describing the relative accelerations of nearby particles, and the Raychaudhuri equation, giving the evolution of the kinematical quantities associated with deformations (expansion, shear and rotation) in the ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
