Root growth response of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and mallow (Malva sylvestris L.) to biopore generating precrops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Little is known about root growth in biopores. The aim of this study was to quantify differences of root-length density (RLD) in biopores between a tap root system (mallow) and a fibrous root system (wheat).

Studies on flavor components of roasted chicory root.

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1982
Steam-volatile components of roasted and air-dried chicory root were investigated. Thirty-two compounds were identified in the roasted root, 23 of which were new as chicory root constituents. The major components of the air-dried root were fatty acids (palmitic, 60.2% and linoleic, 31.5%).

Effect of four plant species on soil 15N-access and herbage yield in temporary agricultural grasslands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Positive plant diversity-productivity relationships have been reported for experimental semi-natural grasslands (Cardinale et al. 2006; Hector et al. 1999; Tilman et al. 1996) as well as temporary agricultural grasslands (Frankow-Lindberg et al.

Quantitative Determination of Hysroxycinnamic Acids in Chicory Root [PDF]

open access: yesChemistry & Chemical Technology, 2013
The possibility for applying of a direct spectrophotometry to quantify totality of hydroxycin- namic acid derivatives is investigated. As a quantitative criterion for quality assessment of chicory roots the total content of hydroxycinnam ic acid derivatives of at least 0.3 %, expressed as chlorogenic acid, is suggested.

GENETIC SOURCES OF RESISTANCE TO ROOT ROTS CYCORY FROM DIFFERENT ECOLOGICAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL ORIGIN

open access: yesОвощи России, 2018
The main type of root chicory diseases are root rot of root crops. In unfavorable years, they affect up to 40-50% of root crops, which are culled from the test weight and are not paid for when the crop is delivered to the processing enterprises. The most

In Vitro propagation of a cuban Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungal strain and factible bacteria’s association

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Biotecnología, 2022
In vitro root cultivation techniques based on modified root systems are often used in studies on Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF). It is a simplified but powerful tool to investigate AMF root colonization and development of the extraradical mycelium ...

Chicory root extracts reduce inflammation in vivo

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2006
Chicory ( Cichorium intybus L.) contains sesquiterpene lactones, which are thought to be potent anti‐inflammatory agents. In this study, chicory extracts rich in sesquiterpene lactones significantly reduced inflammation in three animal models.

Forage herbs improve mineral composition of grassland herbage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Provision of an adequate mineral supply in the diets of ruminants fed mainly on grassland herbage can present a challenge if mineral concentrations are suboptimal for animal nutrition.

Auxin Induced Lateral Root Formation in Chicory [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 1998
Abstract The supply of auxins [2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4D), indole-3 acetic acid (1AA) and α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA)] to excised chicory roots induced the formation of lateral root meristems mainly located close to the pre-existing apical root meristem.

Feeding with chicory roots reduces the amount of odorous compounds in colon and rectal contents of pigs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Sixteen pigs (eight entire males and eight females) were given individually two diets, control and control added 25% chopped chicory roots for 2 months before slaughter.
