In this study, cell death induced by the oxidant tert-butylhydroperoxide (tBH) was observed in U2OS cells; this phenotype was rescued by Syntaxin 17 (STX17) knockout (KO) but the mechanism is unknown.

Effect of LPS and melatonin on early development of mouse embryo
Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is an endotoxin factor present in the cell wall of Gram-negative bacteria and induces various immune responses to infection. Recent studies have reported that LPS induces cellular stress in various cells including oocytes and ...

Temperature and light requirements for growth of two diatom species (Bacillariophyceae) isolated from an Arctic macroalga [PDF]
In the present study, two abundant epiphyticdiatom taxa were isolated from the assimilation hairs ofthe brown macroalga Chordaria flagelliformis collected inthe Arctic Kongsfjorden (Spitsbergen, Norway), establishedas unialgal cultures and their growth ...

Demonstration of a Validated Direct Current Wearable Device for Monitoring Sweat Rate in Sports
Sweat rate magnitude is a desired outcome for any wearable sensing patch dedicated to sweat analysis. Indeed, sweat rate values can be used two-fold: self-diagnosis of dehydration and correction/normalization of other physiological metrics, such as Borg ...

Using the MitoB method to assess levels of reactive oxygen species in ecological studies of oxidative stress [PDF]
In recent years evolutionary ecologists have become increasingly interested in the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on the life-histories of animals.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Nonlocal elliptic equations in bounded domains: a survey [PDF]
In this paper we survey some results on the Dirichlet problem \[\left\{ \begin{array}{rcll} L u &=&f&\textrm{in }\Omega \\ u&=&g&\textrm{in }\mathbb R^n\backslash\Omega \end{array}\right.\] for nonlocal operators of the form \[Lu(x)=\textrm{PV}\int_ ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Bad Wadge-like reducibilities on the Baire space [PDF]
We consider various collections of functions from the Baire space X into itself naturally arising in (effective) descriptive set theory and general topology, including computable (equivalently, recursive) functions, contraction mappings, and functions ...
