Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Root tracking using time-varying autoregressive moving average models and sigma-point Kalman filters

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2020
Root tracking is a powerful technique that provides insight into the mechanisms of various time-varying processes. The poles and the zeros of a signal-generating system determine the spectral characteristics of the signal under consideration.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Detecting Error-Related Negativity for Interaction Design [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper examines the ability to detect a characteristic brain potential called the Error-Related Negativity (ERN) using off-the-shelf headsets and explores its applicability to HCI.

ROUND-OFF ERRORS IN FLOATING-POINT ADDITIONS

open access: yesMemoirs of the Faculty of Science, Kyushu University. Series A, Mathematics, 1985
Models of algorithms of floating-point addition are designed for chopping, correctly rounding and augmentation rounding arithmetics with finite-length accumulators. The chopping arithmetic is shown to match with the simplest software, which calculates round-off errors.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Round-off error propagation in the solution of the heat equation by finite differences

open access: yes, 1995
The effect of round-off errors on the numerical solution of the heat equation by finite differences can be theoretically determined by computing the mean error at each time step. The floating point error propagation is then theoretically time linear. The

Optimal Design of a High-Speed Single-Phase Flux Reversal Motor for Vacuum Cleaners

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
This paper describes the design of a single-phase high-speed flux reversal motor (FRM) for use in a domestic application (vacuum cleaner). This machine has a simple and reliable rotor structure, which is a significant advantage for high-speed ...

Analytical approximate solutions for nonplanar Burgers equations by weighted residual method

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
In this work, analytical approximate progressive wave solutions for the generalized form of the nonplanar KdV-Burgers (KdV-B) and mKdV-Burgers (mKdV-B) equations are presented and the results are discussed.
