Experimental round window membrane rupture.

open access: yesActa paediatrica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae, 1981
An increase of perilymphatic fluid pressure was found to be an important factor in the aetiology of round window membrane rupture. The critical pressure causing membrane rupture, as determined in anaesthetized cats, was in the range of 10-30 mm Hg (mean, 23.4 +/- 17.1).

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

Morphological changes in round window membrane following topical hydrocortisone and dexamethasone treatment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
HYPOTHESIS: Are all glucocorticoids supposed to have the same effect on the round window membrane? BACKGROUND: Interest in glucocorticoids for topical treatment of inner ear diseases is increasing.

MagmaFlow: A desktop platform for artificial intelligence‐driven expression analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MagmaFlow is a free, no‐code platform for gene expression analysis. It generates interactive volcano plots, links genes to literature, pathways, and diseases, prioritizes candidates using millions of publications, identifies affected biological processes, builds network diagrams, and exports publication‐ready figures and reports for macOS and Windows ...

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.

Sertraline Treatment Can Mimic Niemann‐Pick Type C Biomarker Profile: A Diagnostic Pitfall

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oxysterols (cholestane‐3β,5α,6β‐triol and 7‐ketocholesterol) and N‐palmitoyl‐O‐phosphocholineserine (PPCS) are sensitive biomarkers for Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC) screening. However, false‐positive results occur, with a biomarker profile suggestive of NPC despite the absence of pathogenic variants in genes involved in NPC or ...

Adenoviral–mediated Hath1–EGFP gene transfer into guinea pig cochlea through intact round window membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
ObjectiveTo study expression of adenoviral–mediated Hath1–EGFP gene in the guinea pig cochlea after transfer through intact round window membrane(RWM), and to assess its effects on hearing.MethodsTwenty adult guinea pigs were used, of which: 12 were ...

Unraveling 4‐Phenylbutyrate's Therapeutic Role in SLC6A1 Disorders: Pharmacochaperoning Over HDAC Inhibition

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Variants in SLC6A1, encoding the GABA transporter 1 (GAT‐1), cause epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder, and developmental delay via loss of GABA uptake, impaired trafficking, and ER retention. We previously found that 4‐Phenylbutyrate (PBA), an FDA‐approved drug, restores GABA uptake and reduces seizures in SLC6A1‐related disorders ...

Round window vibroplasty in chronic ear surgery : Comparison with conventional hearing rehabilitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Conclusion:Functional hearing results with round window vibroplasty in chronically disabled middle ears were comparable and, at high frequencies, superior to the results achieved with previously used conventional hearing aids even after extended surgery.
