Standoff Detection via Single-Beam Spectral Notch Filtered Pulses
We demonstrate single-beam coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS), for detecting and identifying traces of solids, including minute amounts of explosives, from a standoff distance (>50 m) using intense femtosecond pulses.

Wind Turbine Model Validation Is Improved by High‐Resolution, Measurement‐Derived Inflows
ABSTRACT There is an increased need for accurate validation of turbine models used by original equipment manufacturers to fine‐tune prototypes and predict power performance and maintenance needs while avoiding costly warranty payouts. Perhaps the most substantial source of uncertainty in typical wind turbine model validation procedures is the use of ...

ABSTRACT Wine yeasts play a central role in alcoholic fermentation and significantly contribute to the sensory attributes of wines through cellular autolysis during lees aging (sur lie), especially in white wines. This process releases organic compounds that alter the wine's chemical and sensory profile.

Collective behaviors of Drosophila-derived retinal progenitors in controlled microenvironments.
Collective behaviors of retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) are critical to the development of neural networks needed for vision. Signaling cues and pathways governing retinal cell fate, migration, and functional organization are remarkably conserved across ...

A method to simulate the Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) γ sensitivity has been developed using a Monte Carlo code. The sensitivity has been evaluated as a function of the γ energy in the range 0.1–100 MeV and for different spectra. To evaluate the response of the detector in a Large Hadron Collider (LHC) background environment the γ energy spectrum ...

Abstract Background and objective The development of Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is shaped by genetic predisposition and epigenetic regulation. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) risk alleles are major genetic determinants, but the epigenetic landscape in relation to disease onset remains unclear.

MARTA: A high-energy cosmic-ray detector concept with high-accuracy muon measurement
A new concept for the direct measurement of muons in air showers is presented. The concept is based on resistive plate chambers (RPCs), which can directly measure muons with very good space and time resolution. The muon detector is shielded by placing it

Toxic Entanglements: Asylum and Extraction in the Republic of Nauru
ABSTRACT Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the outsourcing of asylum processing and resettlement from Global North to South. Many of these containment practices retrace the fault lines of more typically thought‐of colonial extractive regimes. This article draws on long‐term ethnographic research conducted in the Republic of Nauru, the world'
