Yeast Rrp8p, a novel methyltransferase responsible for m1A 645 base modification of 25S rRNA

open access: yes, 2012
Ribosomal RNA undergoes various modifications to optimize ribosomal structure and expand the topological potential of RNA. The most common nucleotide modifications in ribosomal RNA (rRNA) are pseudouridylations and 2'-O methylations (Nm), performed by H ...

The human Imp3 and Imp4 proteins form a ternary complex with hMpp10, which only interacts with the U3 snoRNA in 60-80S ribonucleoprotein complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Ribosome biogenesis requires a vast number of trans-acting factors many of which are required for the chemical modification and processing of the pre-rRNA component.

Identification of a structural motif of 23S rRNA interacting with 5S rRNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2001
To identify RNA motifs interacting with 5S rRNA, a systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment experiment was applied. Some of the resulting RNA aptamers contained a consensus sequence similar to the sequence in the loop region of helix 89 of 23S rRNA.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Diversity of 23S rRNA genes within individual prokaryotic genomes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2009
The concept of ribosomal constraints on rRNA genes is deduced primarily based on the comparison of consensus rRNA sequences between closely related species, but recent advances in whole-genome sequencing allow evaluation of this concept within organisms ...

Long-read MinION™ sequencing of 16S and 16S-ITS-23S rRNA genes provides species-level resolution of Lactobacillaceae in mixed communities

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
The Lactobacillaceae are lactic acid bacteria harnessed to deliver important outcomes across numerous industries, and their unambiguous, species-level identification from mixed community environments is an important endeavor.

The Protist Ribosomal Reference database (PR2): a catalog of unicellular eukaryote Small Sub-Unit rRNA sequences with curated taxonomy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The interrogation of genetic markers in environmental meta-barcoding studies is currently seriously hindered by the lack of taxonomically curated reference data sets for the targeted genes.

Identification of an Alternative rRNA Post-transcriptional Maturation of 26S rRNA in the Kingdom Fungi

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Despite of the integrity of their RNA, some desert truffles present a non-canonical profile of rRNA where 3.3 kb is absent, 1.8 kb is clear and a band of 1.6 kb is observed.

The nucleolar protein NOL12 is required for processing of large ribosomal subunit rRNA precursors in Arabidopsis

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2023
Background NOL12 5′-3′ exoribonucleases, conserved among eukaryotes, play important roles in pre-rRNA processing, ribosome assembly and export. The most well-described yeast counterpart, Rrp17, is required for maturation of 5.8 and 25S rRNAs, whereas ...

Endonucleolytic processing plays a critical role in the maturation of ribosomal RNA in Methanococcus maripaludis

open access: yesRNA Biology, 2023
Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) processing and maturation are fundamentally important for ribosome biogenesis, but the mechanisms in archaea, the third form of life, remains largely elusive.
