Yeast pre-rRNA is processed at the A' site.
Maturation of the pre-ribosomal RNA (pre-rRNA) in eukaryotes involves a series of processing steps that remove transcribed spacer sequences to produce mature ribosomes. In many organisms two processing sites are located in the 5'external transcribed spacer (5'ETS), along with the site that defines the 5'-end of the 18S rRNA.

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.

Comparative assessment of crystallographic and cryo‐EM models in the Protein Data Bank
Raw data obtained by X‐ray crystallography or cryo‐EM result in experimental maps, ultimately fitted by atomic models. Although the physical principles are different, the final results can be viewed, compared, and evaluated in the same way. With cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) on track to surpass X‐ray crystallography as the preferred method ...

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

A new rRNA processing mutant ofSaccharomyces cerevisiae
We have identified from a collection of temperature sensitive yeast mutants strains which fail to process rRNA normally. Characterization of one such mutant is reported here. This strain accumulates increased amounts of the 35S primary transcript, '24S' molecules extending from the transcription start site to the 5.8S region, and two classes of 5.8S ...

Processing of a Composite Large Subunit rRNA: Studies with Chlamydomonas Mutants Deficient in Maturation of the 23S-Like rRNA [PDF]
(Cr.LSU). Little is known of the cis and trans requirements or of the processing pathway for this essential RNA. Previous work showed that the ribosome-deficient ac20 mutant overaccumulates an unspliced large subunit (LSU) RNA, suggesting that it might be a splicing mutant.

Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.

The Functions of Non-coding RNAs in rRNA Regulation
Ribosomes are ribonucleoprotein machines that decode the genetic information embedded in mRNAs into polypeptides. Ribosome biogenesis is tightly coordinated and controlled from the transcription of pre-rRNAs to the assembly of ribosomes.

ABSTRACT Wetlands constitute Earth's largest natural methane (CH4) source, yet projections of their climate feedback remain uncertain due to poorly constrained temperature sensitivity (Q10‐CH4) of microbial methanogenesis. While water table dynamics have been demonstrated to regulate wetland methanogenesis by altering key soil conditions such as ...
