Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

Use of RNA secondary structure for evolutionary relationships : investigating RNase P and RNase MRP : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Genetics at Massey University, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Bioinformatics is applied here to examine whether RNA secondary structure data can reflect distant evolutionary relationships. This is important when there is little confidence in sequence data such as when looking at the evolution of RNase MRP (MRP ...

Application of COMPOCHIP Microarray to Investigate the Bacterial Communities of Different Composts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A microarray spotted with 369 different 16S rRNA gene probes specific to microorganisms involved in the degradation process of organic waste during composting was developed. The microarray was tested with pure cultures, and of the 30,258 individual probe-

Cloning of a gene involved in rRNA precursor processing and 23S rRNA cleavage in Rhodobacter capsulatus

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1994
In Rhodobacter capsulatus wild-type strains, the 23S rRNA is cleaved into [16S] and [14S] rRNA molecules. Our data show that a region predicted to form a hairpin-loop structure is removed from the 23S rRNA during this processing step. We have analyzed the processing of rRNA in the wild type and in the mutant strain Fm65, which does not cleave the 23S ...

Analysis of rRNA processing and translation in mammalian cells using a synthetic 18S rRNA expression system [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2012
Analysis of processing, assembly, and function of higher eukaryotic ribosomal RNA (rRNA) has been hindered by the lack of an expression system that enables rRNA to be modified and then examined functionally. Given the potential usefulness of such a system, we have developed one for mammalian 18S rRNA. We inserted a sequence tag into expansion segment 3

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

Characterisation of dairy strains of Geobacillus stearothermophilus and a genomics insight into its growth and survival during dairy manufacture : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The thermophilic bacilli, such as G. stearothermophilus, are an important group of contaminants in the dairy industry. Although these bacilli are generally not pathogenic, their presence in dairy products is an indicator of poor hygiene and high numbers ...

Piezoelectric Surface Charge and Dynamic Stimulation Synergize to Promote Cardiac Myoblast Alignment and Maturation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Surface polarization of PVDF films combined with mechanical stimulation generates piezoelectric electrical cues that modulate cardiomyoblast behaviour. Non‐poled and poled PVDF substrates provide distinct electroactive microenvironments influencing cell adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation.

High‐Throughput 3D Matrigel‐based Droplet Microfluidics for Single‐Cell Function‐to‐Omics Analysis of Cytotoxic Immune Cells in Solid Tumor Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A 3D Matrigel‐based droplet microfluidics platform that allows physiologically relevant analysis of single immune‐tumor interactions in solid tumors. By integrating real‐time functional imaging with fluorescence‐activated droplet sorting and RNA sequencing, the system links immune cytotoxic behavior to transcriptomic profiles, providing a scalable ...

Nucleolar Structure and Function in Trypanosomatid Protozoa

open access: yesCells, 2019
The nucleolus is the conspicuous nuclear body where ribosomal RNA genes are transcribed by RNA polymerase I, pre-ribosomal RNA is processed, and ribosomal subunits are assembled.
