Preanalytical Issues and Cycle Threshold Values in SARS-CoV-2 Real-Time RT-PCR Testing: Should Test Results Include These?

open access: yesACS Omega, 2021
Since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, clinical laboratories worldwide are overwhelmed with SARS-CoV-2 testing using the current gold standard: real-time reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays. The large numbers of suspected

Should RT‐PCR be considered a gold standard in the diagnosis of COVID‐19?

open access: yesJournal of Medical Virology, 2020
To face the new Covid-19 pandemic, the need for early and accurate diagnosis of the disease among suspected cases quickly became obvious for effective management, and for better control of the spread of the disease in the population.

Performance of an alternative RT-PCR procedure using residual sample from the Panbio™ Ag COVID-19 test

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2021
Introduction: In the current standard of care (SoC) RT-PCR method for COVID-19, the patient's swab was extracted in viral transport media (VTM). For the Panbio™ COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test, the patient swab is flushed out in extraction buffer, of which a ...

A case report of COVID-19 with false negative RT-PCR test: necessity of chest CT

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Radiology, 2020
The definite diagnosis of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is based on the viral isolation or positive result of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) from sputum, or nasal swab, or throat swab. However, the sensitivity to detect COVID-19 of real time (RT)-

BREAST CANCER TYPING USING RT-PCR ASSAY

open access: yesСибирский онкологический журнал, 2019
Introduction. Adjuvant systemic therapy remains one of the main options for treating breast cancer. Results of standard immunohistochemical studies are not always a criterion for selecting systemic therapy.

Estimating the false-negative test probability of SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR

open access: yesEuro surveillance : bulletin Europeen sur les maladies transmissibles = European communicable disease bulletin, 2020
Background Reverse-transcription PCR (RT-PCR) assays are used to test for infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. RT-PCR tests are highly specific and the probability of false positives is low, but false negatives are possible depending on swab type and ...

RT-PCR Protocols - Methods in Molecular Biology

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Histochemistry, 2011
“The first record I have of it, is when I made a computer file which I usually did whenever I had an idea, that would have been on the Monday when I got back, and I called it Chain Reaction.POL, meaning polymerase.

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Circular RT-PCR Assay Using Arabidopsis Samples

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2015
Post-transcriptional processing is critical for RNA biogenesis, in which conventional functional RNA transcripts are generated, such as messenger RNAs (mRNAs), transfer RNAs (tRNAs) and ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) for translation as well as emerging non ...
