Salmonella enterica is one of the most ubiquitous enteropathogenic bacterial species on earth, and comprises more than 2500 serovars. Widely known for causing non-typhoidal foodborne infections (95%), and enteric (typhoid) fever in humans, Salmonella ...

Based on the Danish Salmonella surveillance in 2000-2001, we developed a mathematical model for quantifying the contribution of each major animal-food sources to human salmonellosis caused by antimicrobial resistant bacteria. Domestic food products accounted for 53.1% of all cases, mainly caused by table eggs (37.6%).

Prevention and Control of Human Salmonella enterica Infections: An Implication in Food Safety
Salmonella is a foodborne zoonotic pathogen causing diarrhoeal disease to humans after consuming contaminated water, animal, and plant products. The bacterium is the third leading cause of human death among diarrhoeal diseases worldwide. Therefore, human

Salmonella infection in calves and other animals [PDF]
Abstract The effectiveness of various combinations of selective enrichment and plating media for the isolation of salmonellae from meat and animal samples has been compared. For the routine examination of meat and meat products enrichment in tetrathionate brilliant green broth followed by plating on brilliant green and Wil~on and Blair bismuth sulphite

Incidence of salmonella infection in animals in England and Wales, 1968–1974 [PDF]
SUMMARYOf a total of 23,609 incidents of salmonella infection reported during the period 1968–74, 20,326 occurred in cattle, 1744 in poultry and other birds, 675 in sheep, 558 in pigs and 306 in other species of animals.Despite the large number of serotypes isolated (153), 88% of incidents were due to only two serotypes: S.

Iron requirement in the infection of Salmonella and its relevance to poultry health
Summary: Iron is essential for DNA synthesis, respiration, energy metabolism, and key metabolic reactions intrinsic to life because of its capability to accept and release electrons easily and its indispensability for most of the creatures on the earth ...

Molecular Mechanisms Used by Salmonella to Evade the Immune System [PDF]
Human and animal pathogens are able to circumvent, at least temporarily, the sophisticated immune defenses of their hosts. Several serovars of the Gram-negative bacterium Salmonella enterica have been used as models for the study of pathogen-host ...
