Inflammation boosts bacteriophage transfer between Salmonella spp.

open access: yesScience, 2017
The parasite of my parasite is my friend? Virulence factors of pathogenic bacteria can be swapped by means of bacterial viruses called phages. In turn, the pathogenic bacteria are under attack by the hosts' immune responses. Diard et al.

Automated detection of Salmonella spp. in foods

Journal of Microbiological Methods, 1999
An automated method to detect salmonellae in foods was developed and tested in food samples intentionally contaminated with the test organisms. Liquid eggs, shell eggs, dry eggs, skim milk and chicken were spiked with Salmonella enteritidis, S. typhimurium or S. newport to yield 2 to 25 CFU per 25 g or ml of sample.

Isolation of Salmonella spp. from Animal Feed

2020
The isolation of Salmonella from feed is challenging and adjustments need to be made in order to accurately isolate the pathogen from feed. This is due to the complex nature of the feed matrix, which is both porous and fibrous. The outlined method below contains the essential components of a successful Salmonella methodology for the analysis of feed ...
