Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Sociodemographic and delivery risk factors for developing postpartum depression in a sample of 3233 mothers from the Czech ELSPAC study

open access: yesBMC Psychiatry, 2017
BackgroundIn the postpartum period, certain groups of women are at a higher risk for developing depressive episodes. Several studies have described risk factors for developing postpartum depression (PPD).

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Physician Financial Incentives and Cesarean Delivery: New Conclusions from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper replicates Gruber, Kim, and Mayzlin’s (1999) analysis of the effect of physician financial incentives on cesarean delivery rates, using their data, sample selection criteria, and specification. Coincident trends explain much of their estimated

Institutional delivery in rural India: the relative importance of accessibility and economic status. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
BACKGROUND: Skilled attendance at delivery is an important indicator in monitoring progress towards Millennium Development Goal 5 to reduce the maternal mortality ratio by three quarters between 1990 and 2015. In addition to professional attention, it is

CFEL TapeDrive 2.0: a conveyor belt-based sample-delivery system for multi-dimensional serial crystallography

open access: yes, 2022
Serial crystallography (SX) at both X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) and synchrotrons offers the possibility to collect data at non-cryogenic temperature almost radiation damage free and enables time-resolved crystallography of irreversible reactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Sampling of umbilical cord blood gases after operative deliveries

open access: yesJournal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, 2007
Assessment of the umbilical cord gases at birth is an objective measurement of the neonatal condition. However, previous studies have shown that the results are unreliable in one out of four paired samples. The aim of our study was to assess the sampling of cord gases after operative deliveries.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...
