Anticancer Perspectives of Sanguinarine: A Review

open access: yesCurrent Bioactive Compounds, 2022
Background: Sanguinarine, a benzophenanthridine alkaloid extracted from Sanguinaria canadensis has been found to show an inhibitory role on proapoptotic and growth inhibitory activities in various tumor cells of experimental subjects. Objective: This review highlights and summarizes the effects of sanguinarine against cancers alongside the possible ...

Structure of Sanguinarine Base

open access: yesJournal of Natural Products, 1996
The structure of sanguinarine free base was examined. The base is either bis[6-(5,6-dihydrosanguinarinyl)] ether (3) or bis[6-(5,6-dihydrosanguinarinyl)]amine (4) depending on whether Na2CO3 or NH3, respectively, is used as an alkalizing agent.

The Anticancer Effect of Sanguinarine: A Review

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2018
In vitro and in vivo studies have revealed that Sanguinarine has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, proapoptotic, and growth inhibitory effects on tumor cells of a variety of cancers. Previous research showed that sanguinarine induced apoptosis (cell death) and/or antiproliferative while reducing tumor cell antiangiogenic and anti-invasive properties ...

Disposition of sanguinarine in the rat

Xenobiotica, 2007
Sanguinarine is an alkaloid with known antibiotic and anti-inflammatory activity and its pharmacokinetics have been studied in the rat after a single oral dose (10 mg kg(-1) body weight). Alkaloid determination in the plasma and liver was carried out by high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HPLC/ESI-MS).

Comparative antiplaque activity of sanguinarine and chlorhexidine in man

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, 1990
Abstract This clinical investigation examined the effect of a sanguinarine extract on bacterial plaque growth in man. Three different mouthrinses were examined: (i) Veadent® containing 0.03% sanguinarine and 0.2% zinc chloride (test rinse); (ii) a vehicle solution containing all the excipients of Veadent® except the 0.03% sanguinarine (control rinse); (
