IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Moral Reasoning and Emotion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This chapter discusses contemporary scientific research on the role of reason and emotion in moral judgment. The literature suggests that moral judgment is influenced by both reasoning and emotion separately, but there is also emerging evidence of the ...

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

IS SCIENTIFIC REASONING THE KEY TO LEAN SIX SIGMA’S SUCCESS? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Defense Resources Management, 2020
The Lean Six Sigma (LSS) process continue to be used throughout the public and private sectors to map processes seeking to make them lean and, thereby, more efficient and effective. We make the argument that the LSS process (i.e.

Middleware Building Blocks for Workflow Systems

open access: yes, 2019
This paper describes a building blocks approach to the design of scientific workflow systems. We discuss RADICAL-Cybertools as one implementation of the building blocks concept, showing how they are designed and developed in accordance with this approach.

Informal fallacies as cognitive heuristics in public health reasoning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The public must make assessments of a range of health-related issues. However, these assessments require scientific knowledge which is often lacking or ineffectively utilized by the public.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Scientific reasoning ability does not predict scientific views on evolution among religious individuals

open access: yesEvolution: Education and Outreach, 2018
Background Acceptance of evolutionary theory varies widely and is often associated with religious background. Some have suggested there exists an additional relationship between scientific reasoning ability and the acceptance of evolutionary theory.
