Stable Isotope–Enabled Particle Drift Models Predict Where High‐Resolution Isotope Analyses Can Discriminate Among Larval Trajectories in Atlantic Mackerel

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Marine fish commonly move across distinct habitats throughout their lifetimes, particularly during larval stages, when they are particularly difficult to track. Such transitions are necessary as environmental demands and predation pressures change dramatically with increases in body size.

Using Stock Vulnerability to Evaluate Fishery‐Independent Survey Coverage and Inform Sampling Priorities

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 912-926, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The consequences of mis‐managing vulnerable stocks (i.e., those with low productivity and high susceptibility to depletion) are high and potentially permanent. To support sustainable fisheries management, stock assessments can be improved by increasing the quantity and quality of fishery‐independent survey (i.e., survey) data.

On the Stock of Scomber japonicus (NOUTTUYN)

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1940
Form the results of marking experiments, as well as from the records of catch according to the several body-weight classes, the survival rate of Sccmber juponicus (HOUTTUYN) was estimated to be 40 for the age of from 2 to 3 years, and 21 for the age of from 3 to 4 years.

Vertical Habitat Use by Japanese Jack Mackerel Trachurus japonicus Inferred From a Biologging Study in Tokyo Bay

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, Volume 35, Issue 4, Page 518-531, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The movement ecology of Trachurus japonicus in the adult stage remains poorly understood because observing their underwater behavior over long periods is challenging. This study aimed to examine vertical habitat use by T. japonicus using electronic tags. Ninety fish were tagged and released in November 2022 in Tokyo Bay, Japan.

A Comparison of the Biochemical Characteristics of Different Anatomical Regions of Chub (Scomber japonicus) and Blue Mackerel (Scomber australasicus) Muscles [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2010
Chub and blue mackerels are popular fish resources in Korea, but little is known about each biochemical characters of different anatomical regions. To investigate biochemical characters of chub and blue mackerels, three ordinary muscle regions were identified by their fin position; namely anterior, median, posterior.

On Maximum Length Record of the Chub Mackerel (Scomber japonicus Houttuyn, 1782) from Northern Aegean Sea (Turkey, eastern Mediterranean)

open access: yesMarine Science and Technology Bulletin, 2020
The accurate estimates of the maximum length of fish within a population are significant issues. Because the parameters related to maximum length, weight and age of fish communities in the ecosystem are constantly used in population dynamics and stock ...
