The genus Trematocarpus (Sarcodiaceae, Rhodophyta) in southern Africa and the exclusion of Sphaerococcus (Chondrus) scutellatus

open access: yesBothalia: African Biodiversity & Conservation, 1983
Trematocarpus Kützing in southern Africa is found to comprise four taxa in three species: newly described is T.  fragilis (Ag.) De Toni var. divaricatus Simons, var. nov. Two of the species, T. flabellatus (J. Ag.) De Toni and T.  affinis (J.

On seaweed subalgebras and meander graphs in type C [PDF]

open access: yesPacific J. Math., Vol. 285 (2016), No. 2, 485--499, 2016
In 2000, Dergachev and Kirillov introduced subalgebras of "seaweed type" in $\mathfrak{gl}(n)$ and computed their index using certain graphs. In this article, those graphs are called type-A meander graphs. Then the subalgebras of seaweed type, or just "seaweeds", have been defined by Panyushev (2001) for arbitrary simple Lie algebras.

Seaweed Growth Monitoring with a Low-Cost Vision-Based System

open access: yesSensors, 2023
In this paper, we introduce a method for automated seaweed growth monitoring by combining a low-cost RGB and stereo vision camera. While current vision-based seaweed growth monitoring techniques focus on laboratory measurements or above-ground seaweed ...

Seaweed and Seaweed-Based Functional Metabolites as Potential Modulators of Growth, Immune and Antioxidant Responses, and Gut Microbiota in Fish

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2023
Seaweed, also known as macroalgae, represents a vast resource that can be categorized into three taxonomic groups: Rhodophyta (red), Chlorophyta (green), and Phaeophyceae (brown).

Contact seaweeds II: type C [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
This paper is a continuation of earlier work on the construction of contact forms on seaweed algebras. In the prequel to this paper, we show that every index-one seaweed subalgebra of $A_{n-1}=\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ is contact by identifying contact forms that arise from Dougherty's framework.

Sulfated Galactans from Gracilaria fisheri with Supplementation of Octanoyl Promote Wound Healing Activity In Vitro and In Vivo

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, Volume 22, Issue 12, December 2022., 2022
Gracilaria fisheri sulfated galactans are degraded, supplemented with octanoyl and sulfate groups, and characterized by GPC, FTIR and NMR. Octanoyl sulfated galactans show superior wound healing activity both in fibroblasts culture and in rats. The possible wound healing mechanism of octanoyl sulfated galactans is through the regulation of proteins and

Fatty acid profiles of the main lipid classes of green seaweeds from fish pond aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The lipid composition of five species of green seaweeds (Chaetomorpha linum, Rhizoclonium riparium, Ulva intestinalis, Ulva lactuca, and Ulva prolifera) grown in fish pond aquaculture systems was studied.
