Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

The influence of the Pinyin and Zhuyin writing systems on the acquisition of Mandarin word forms by native English speakers

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2016
The role of written input in second language (L2) phonological and lexical acquisition has received increased attention in recent years. Here we investigated the influence of two factors that may moderate the influence of orthography on L2 word form ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Instances and connectors : issues for a second generation process language [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
This work is supported by UK EPSRC grants GR/L34433 and GR/L32699Over the past decade a variety of process languages have been defined, used and evaluated. It is now possible to consider second generation languages based on this experience.

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...
