On-line semantic mapping

2013 16th International Conference on Advanced Robotics (ICAR), 2013
Human Robot Interaction is a key enabling feature to support the introduction of robots in everyday environments. However, robots are currently incapable of building representations of the environments that allow both for the execution of complex tasks and for an easy interaction with the user requesting them.

Snapshots for semantic maps

2004 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37583), 2005
A significant area of research in mobile robotics is in the local representation of a remote environment. In order to include a human in a mobile robot task it becomes important to present the remote information efficiently to a human. A relatively new approach to information presentation is semantic maps.

Ontology-driven Semantic Mapping

2008
When facilitating interoperability at the data level one faces the problem that different data models are used as the basis for business formats. For example relational databases are based on the relational model, while XML Schema is basically a hierarchical model (with some extensions, like references). Our goal is to provide a syntax and a data model

Semantics of the map

The Cartographic Journal, 1992
AbstractA map has long been considered to be a legitimate communication medium, made by the cartographer for different map users. Valuable contributions to the scientific fundamentals of cartography should be expected from the critical investigation of communication aspects of the map, particularly map signs.

Semantic Mapping by Approximation

2006
We address the problem of semantic coordination, namely finding an agreement between the meanings of heterogeneous semantic models. We propose a new approximation method to discover and assess the “strength” (preciseness) of semantic mappings between different concept hierarchies. We apply this method in the music domain.

Grammaticalization and semantic maps

2012
AbstractThis article examines the relevance of semantic maps for grammaticalisation studies. It explains that semantic maps are a way to visualize regular relationships between two or more meanings or grammatical functions of one and the same linguistic form.

‘Give’ and semantic maps

2015
Words and constructions regularly have multiple meanings, and it may be difficult delineating these meanings and whether they are instances of monosemy or polysemy. This paper discusses this problem with regard to some uses of ‘give’. Some uses fall under the definition of a literal meaning ‘cause someone to obtain something’ (e.g.
