Plasma and Synovial Fluid VEGF‐A and Neuropilin‐1 in Knee Osteoarthritis: Associations With Radiographic Severity, Pain Sensitization‐Related Features, and Disease Burden

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate associations of plasma and synovial fluid vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF‐A) and neuropilin‐1 (NRP1) levels with radiographic severity, pain sensitization‐related features, and disease burden in knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Plasma VEGF‐A and NRP1 were measured by sandwich ELISA in 120 patients with KOA (

Axon responses of embryonic stem cell‐derived dopaminergic neurons to semaphorins 3A and 3C [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, 2009
AbstractClass 3 Semaphorins are a subfamily of chemotropic molecules implicated in the projection of dopaminergic neurons from the ventral mesencephalon and in the formation of the nigrostriatal pathway (NSP) during embryonic development. In humans, loss of mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons leads to Parkinson's disease (PD).

From patient to tumor organoid: Culture protocol choice controls glioblastoma tumor architecture and identity

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
How glioblastoma organoids are made shapes what they become. Fragment‐based cultures preserve extracellular matrix networks, cellular diversity, and primary tumor identity, whereas dissociation‐based cultures shift toward growth‐adapted states and simplified microenvironments. Abstract Patient‐derived tumor organoids are widely used in cancer research,

Regulation of Sema3c and the Interaction between Cardiac Neural Crest and Second Heart Field during Outflow Tract Development

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The cardiac neural crest cells (cNCCs) and the second heart field (SHF) play key roles in development of the cardiac outflow tract (OFT) for establishment of completely separated pulmonary and systemic circulations in vertebrates. A neurovascular guiding

Brain metastasis‐associated fibroblasts shape the tumour microenvironment to enhance cancer cell invasion

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Brain metastasis‐associated fibroblasts are active stromal components of the metastatic niche characterised by extracellular matrix remodelling and production of pro‐migratory mediators. They promote monocyte and cancer cell migration and enhance cancer cell invasion while having no growth‐promoting effect on cancer cells.

The association of semaphorins 3C, 5A and 6D with liver fibrosis stage in chronic hepatitis C [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2018
Semaphorins are a diverse family of immunoregulators recently recognized to play a major role in various phases of immune responses. Their role in chronic viral hepatitis C (CHC) and contribution to the progression of liver disease is unknown. The aim of this study was to analyse the association of secreted semaphorins with the severity of liver ...

Predicting Relevant Microglia‐Associated Cell–Cell Communication Pathways in Alzheimer's Disease: A Role for SPP1

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 10, October 2026.
We used CellChat to infer altered cell–cell communication in Alzheimer's disease Microglia signal to each other via SPP1 in Alzheimer's disease. SPP1‐expressing microglia are present around amyloid‐β plaques. ABSTRACT Microglia play a key role in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and their increased heterogeneity likely affects disease ...

Plasma Membrane Remodeling During Microglial Activation: A Hypothesis Linking Microglial Shape and Lipid Droplet Formation

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
Microglial morphology changes in response to damage by Aβ and aging result in significant reductions in cell surface area. Transcriptomic analyses suggest that fatty acid synthesis and triacylglycerol formation drive redistribution of surface membrane into intracellular lipid droplets.

Lymphatic Endothelial Cells in Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) are dynamic regulators of tissue homeostasis and disease remodeling. In the healthy state, LECs coordinate interstitial fluid drainage, intestinal lipid transport, and immune trafficking and tolerance. Across disease settings, however, these same programs become maladaptively reprogrammed, contributing to barrier ...

Semaphorin 3C in prostate cancer tumourigenesis

open access: yes, 2018
Prostate cancer (PCa) is among the most commonly-occurring cancers worldwide and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men. Local non-invasive PCa is highly treatable but limited treatment options exist for those with locally-advanced and metastatic forms of the disease.
