Supporting brace sizing in structures with added linear viscous fluid dampers: A filter design solution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Viscous fluid dampers have proved to be effective in suppressing unwanted vibrations in a range of engineering structures. When dampers are fitted in a structure, a brace is typically used to attach them to the main structure. The stiffness of this brace

Semi-Active Scissors-Seat Suspension With Magneto-Rheological Damper

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
A cab seat suspension with a magneto-rheological (MR) fluid damper is introduced in this paper. A unified-format model for the MR damper is proposed to describe the dynamic characteristics of the MR damper.

Implementation of fuzzy logic control on a new low cost semi-active vehicle shock absorber

open access: yesJournal of Mechanical Engineering and Sciences, 2022
This work implements a fuzzy logic control (FLC) on a proposed new low-cost semi-active shock absorber to improve vehicle ride comfort. The ordinary passive shock absorber is replaced with a new apparatus consisting of a conventional hydraulic cylinder ...

Multimodal Locomotion in Insect‐Inspired Microrobots: A Review of Strategies for Aerial, Surface, Aquatic, and Interfacial Motion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This review identifies key design considerations for insect‐inspired microrobots capable of multimodal locomotion. To draw inspiration, biological and robotic strategies for moving in air, on water surfaces, and underwater are examined, along with approaches for crossing the air–water interface.

A Soft Robotic Fish With a Dielectric Elastomer Actuator Body and Negative Stiffness Spine

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work introduces a bio‐mimetic soft robotic fish driven by fiber‐reinforced dielectric elastomer actuators integrated as its body. By prestretching this active skin against a flexible spine, a negative stiffness system is created, enabling large‐amplitude bending.
