Testis‐Enriched F‐Box Protein FBXO39 Is Important for Spermiogenesis and Male Fertility in Mice

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The SCF (Skp–Cullin–F‐box) complex is a major class of E3 ubiquitin ligases. F‐box proteins constitute the SCF complex and play a critical role in recognizing substrates for ubiquitination. In mice, several F‐box proteins, including FBXO36 and FBXO39, are predominantly expressed in testes.

Testis morphometry in horses, during the breeding and non-breeding season, and seminiferous tubules cross-sections subdivisions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A) Whereas the seminiferous tubules (ST) volume density was not changed during the two periods evaluated, Leydig cells (LC) and connective tissue (CT) were the most prevalent components of the intertubular compartment during the breeding and non-breeding

Cyclic Treatment With WIN 18,446, a Potential Male Contraceptive, is as Effective as Continuous Treatment for Suppression of Spermatogenesis in Mice

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Retinoic acid plays a critical role in spermatogenesis during both spermatogonial differentiation and spermiation. Mice lacking enzymes that synthesize retinoic acid, Aldh1a1/1a2, in the testes are infertile. WIN 18,446 reversibly inhibits spermatogenesis by inhibiting ALDH1A1/1A2 and is a promising approach to male contraception ...

Comparative study between the flavonoids extracted from Nigella sativa seeds and vitamin E to ameliorating the effect of sodiumnitrate on some testicular functions in adult male rats

open access: yesKufa Journal for Veterinary Medical Sciences, 2014
The present study was designed to investigate the protective effect of flavonoids extracted from Nigella Sativa seeds comparing to vitamin E in ameliorating the deleterious effect of sodium nitrate on some testicular function in adult male rats.

Assessing a Model for a Complex Systemic Disorder—The Value of Male Mice With a Supernumerary X Chromosome for Klinefelter Syndrome Research

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Direct experimental investigation of Klinefelter syndrome (KS) in patients is limited because the syndrome manifests heterogeneously and affects multiple organ systems. Studying KS therefore requires a model that captures this complexity as accurately as possible while still permitting controlled experimental manipulation ...

Diacerein Disrupts Testicular Homeostasis: The Essential Role of Basal Cytokines in Maintaining Sertoli Cell Integrity and the Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pro‐inflammatory cytokines, TNF and IL‐1B, are essential for testicular homeostasis. Diacerein, an anti‐inflammatory drug, inhibits these cytokines, impairing M2 macrophages and Leydig cells (LCs). However, its impact on Sertoli cells (SCs) and M1 (CD68) macrophages remains unknown.

Wild boars (Sus scrofa scrofa) seminiferous tubules morphometry

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2006
The aim of this data was to analyze morphology and function of the seminiferous tubule in adult wild boars. Testes removed by unilateral castration of five animals were used.
