Joint modeling of sensitivity and specificity [PDF]
AbstractSensitivity and specificity are two customary performance measures associated with medical diagnostic tests. Typically, they are modeled independently as a function of risk factors using logistic regression, which provides estimated functions for these probabilities.

Comparison of rapid laboratory tests for failure of passive transfer in the bovine [PDF]
peer-reviewedBackground Failure of passive transfer of maternal immunity via colostrum can occur in the bovine, and a number of blood tests have been developed to test calves for this failure. It is not clear which test is most suitable for this purpose.

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.

Canine Olfactory Differentiation of Cancer: A Review of the Literature [PDF]
Numerous studies have attempted to demonstrate the olfactory ability of canines to detect several common cancer types from human bodily fluids, breath and tissue. Canines have been reported to detect bladder cancer (sensitivity of 0.63-0.73 and specificity of 0.64-0.92) and prostate cancer (sensitivity of 0.91-0.99 and specificity of 0.91-0.97) from ...
