The power of microRNA regulation—insights into immunity and metabolism
MicroRNAs are emerging as crucial regulators at the intersection of metabolism and immunity. This review examines how miRNAs coordinate glucose and lipid metabolism while simultaneously modulating T‐cell development and immune responses. Moreover, it highlights how cutting‐edge artificial intelligence applications can identify miRNA biomarkers ...

Metric Learning for Temporal Sequence Alignment [PDF]
In this paper, we propose to learn a Mahalanobis distance to perform alignment of multivariate time series. The learning examples for this task are time series for which the true alignment is known.

Multiple sequence alignment based on set covers
We introduce a new heuristic for the multiple alignment of a set of sequences. The heuristic is based on a set cover of the residue alphabet of the sequences, and also on the determination of a significant set of blocks comprising subsequences of the ...

Multiple structural alignment for distantly related all b structures using TOPS pattern discovery and simulated annealing [PDF]
Topsalign is a method that will structurally align diverse protein structures, for example, structural alignment of protein superfolds. All proteins within a superfold share the same fold but often have very low sequence identity and different biological

Sequence Alignment in Molecular Biology
Molecular biology is becoming a computationally intense realm of contemporary science and faces some of the current grand scientific challenges. In its context, tools that identify, store, compare and analyze effectively large and growing numbers of bio-sequences are found of increasingly crucial importance.

Homology-extended sequence alignment [PDF]
We present a profile-profile multiple alignment strategy that uses database searching to collect homologues for each sequence in a given set, in order to enrich their available evolutionary information for the alignment. For each of the alignment sequences, the putative homologous sequences that score above a pre-defined threshold are incorporated into

The Saccharomyces cerevisiae amino acid transporter Lyp1 has a broad substrate spectrum
In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Yeast Amino acid Transporter family members mediate the import of amino acids, ranging from substrate specialists to generalists. Here, we show that the specialist transporter, Lyp1, has a broader substrate spectrum than previously described, with affinity constants spanning from micromolar to millimolar.
