Amino acid sequence homology between “α” subunits from Torpedo and Electrophorus acetylcholine receptor

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1982
Abstract The amino terminal amino acid sequence of the 41,000 dalton subunit of Electrophorus electricus acetylcholine receptor has been determined for 35 cycles by automated sequencing procedures. Comparison of the unique polypeptide sequence obtained for this molecule with that of the major subunit of Torpedo californica acetylcholine

Amino acid sequence homology between cholera toxin and Escherichia coli heat-labile toxin

Nature, 1980
Cholera toxin (CT) and the Escherichia coli heat-labile toxin (LT) are functionally, structurally and immunologically similar enterotoxins. Both toxins cause the elevation of cyclic AMP levels in gut epithelial cells by catalysing the NAD-dependent ADP ribosylation of membrane proteins. Each toxin is composed of two dissimilar subunits.

Amino acid sequence homology between rat prostatic steroid binding protein and rabbit uteroglobin

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1983
Using a computer program designed to detect evolutionary relationships between proteins, I find that the polypeptide chain of rabbit uteroglobin has amino acid sequence homology with the C1 and C2 polypeptide chains of rat prostatic steroid binding protein.

[Uneven distribution of amino acid substitutions throughout the amino acid sequence of homologous proteins].

Biokhimiia (Moscow, Russia), 1993
A set of aligned homologous protein sequences is divided into two groups consisting of m and n most related sequences. The value of position variability for homologous protein sequences is defined as a number of failures to coincide in the intergroup comparison of all possible m*n pairs of amino acid residues in that position divided by m*n.

Relation between protein structure, sequence homology and composition of amino acids.

Proceedings. International Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology, 1995
A method of quantitative comparison of two classifications rules applied to protein folding problem is presented. Classification of proteins based on sequence homology and based on amino acid composition were compared and analyzed according to this approach.

Locating gaps in amino acid sequences to optimize the homology between two proteins

Biochemical Genetics, 1969
A method for optimally locating gaps in the amino acid sequences of homologous proteins is presented. The method involves three steps: (1) demonstration that the sequences are indeed homologous, (2) location of regions where the homologous pairing is reasonably certain, and (3) location of gaps between these regions so as to minimize the total number ...
