Bovine and feline gastrin cDNA sequences and the amino acid and nucleotide sequence homologies among mammalian species

DNA Sequence, 1991
The complete nucleotide sequences of cDNAs encoding bovine and feline preprogastrins have been cloned from the antral mucosa mRNA. The gastrin mRNA of each animal encodes a preprogastrin of 104 amino acids consisting of a signal peptide, a prosegment of 37 amino acids, and a gastrin 34 sequence, followed by a glycine (the amide donor).

Locating gaps in amino acid sequences to optimize the homology between two proteins

Biochemical Genetics, 1969
A method for optimally locating gaps in the amino acid sequences of homologous proteins is presented. The method involves three steps: (1) demonstration that the sequences are indeed homologous, (2) location of regions where the homologous pairing is reasonably certain, and (3) location of gaps between these regions so as to minimize the total number ...

[Uneven distribution of amino acid substitutions throughout the amino acid sequence of homologous proteins].

Biokhimiia (Moscow, Russia), 1993
A set of aligned homologous protein sequences is divided into two groups consisting of m and n most related sequences. The value of position variability for homologous protein sequences is defined as a number of failures to coincide in the intergroup comparison of all possible m*n pairs of amino acid residues in that position divided by m*n.

Amino acid sequence homology between ligands and their receptors: potential identification of binding sites

Life Sciences, 1989
Mice were immunized with alpha-bungarotoxin (BGT), a nearly irreversible antagonist of the acetylcholine receptor (AChR), to produce monoclonal antibodies (Mabs). One of the Mabs (JMC2.7) bound not only to BGT, but to the AChR as well. To understand the molecular basis for this novel cross-reaction, the amino acid sequences of these proteins were ...
