Influence of the activation status and of ATP on phosphoribulokinase degradation [PDF]
The light-regulated choroplast enzyme phosphoribulokinase (EC 2.7.1. 19) exists in two forms. In darkness this enzyme is present in an oxidized form, which is inactive. It is activated in the light by a thioredoxin-mediated reduction.

Experimental application of sum rules for electron energy loss magnetic chiral dichroism [PDF]
We present a derivation of the orbital and spin sum rules for magnetic circular dichroic spectra measured by electron energy loss spectroscopy in a transmission electron microscope. These sum rules are obtained from the differential cross section calculated for symmetric positions in the diffraction pattern.

ABSTRACT Loss of effective arterial blood volume, secondary hyperaldosteronism, adrenergic activation and nonosmotic hypersecretion of vasopressin induce sodium and water retention in cirrhotic patients with ascites. The mechanisms of sodium retention that precede ascites formation remain elusive.

The mycotoxin Beauvericin is an uncompetitive inhibitor of Cathepsin B
Abstract Beauvericin (BEA), a cyclic depsipeptide, is a mycotoxin of the enniatin family and the secondary metabolite of various toxigenic fungi. Multiple biological functions of BEA have been well investigated, such as anti‐cancer, anti‐inflammatory, anti‐microbial, and immune‐activating functions. In a recent study, we showed that BEA can target Toll‐

FunClust: a web server for the identification of structural motifs in a set of non-homologous protein structures [PDF]
The occurrence of very similar structural motifs brought about by different parts of non homologous proteins is often indicative of a common function. Indeed, relatively small local structures can mediate binding to a common partner, be it a protein, a ...

Abstract Seed dormancy is an adaptation that delays germination to prevent the start of this process during unsuitable conditions. It is crucial in wild species but its loss was selected during crop domestication to ensure a fast and uniform germination. Water uptake, or imbibition, is the first step of germination.

Synthetic Lethality of the lytE cwlO Genotype in Bacillus subtilis Is Caused by Lack of D,L-Endopeptidase Activity at the Lateral Cell Wall [PDF]
Bacterial peptidoglycan acts as an exoskeleton to protect the bacterial cell. Although peptidoglycan biosynthesis by penicillin-binding proteins is well studied, few studies have described peptidoglycan disassembly, which is necessary for a dynamic ...

Serine Proteases: an Ab Initio Molecular Dynamics Study [PDF]
In serine proteases (SP's), the H-bond between His-57 and Asp-102, and that between Gly-193 and the transition state intermediate play a crucial role for enzymatic function. To shed light on the nature of these interactions, we have carried out ab initio molecular dynamics simulations on complexes representing adducts between the reaction intermediate ...

Summary Anti‐nutritional factors in plant seeds diminish the utilization of nutrients in feed and food. Among these, protease inhibitors inhibit protein degradation by exogenous proteases during digestion. Through conventional and selection‐gene‐free genome editing using ovules as explants, we used simplex and multiplex CRISPR/Cas9 for studying the ...
