Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

DNA marker-assisted sex conversion in elite papaya genotype (Carica papaya L.)

open access: yesCrop Breeding and Applied Biotechnology, 2007
Papaya is a genetically narrow-based crop, with few genetically distinct cultivars available for planting. This study aimed at the sex conversion of genotype “Cariflora', from the dioecious to the gynoecious - andromonoecious stage, by means of RAPD ...

Fast evolutionary turnover and overlapping variances of sex-biased gene expression patterns defy a simple binary sex classification of somatic tissues

open access: yeseLife
Sexual dimorphism in phenotypes is largely driven by genes with sex-biased expression, spanning from key regulators to numerous organ-specific effectors.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Evolutionary and developmental dynamics of sex-biased gene expression in common frogs with proto-Y chromosomes

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2018
Background The patterns of gene expression on highly differentiated sex chromosomes differ drastically from those on autosomes, due to sex-specific patterns of selection and inheritance.

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Sex expression in spinach

open access: yesHilgardia, 1925
Abstract does not appear. First page follows. As would be expected in a dioecious, wind-pollinized plant, existing varieties of spinach are in general in a highly heterozygous condition. Commercial stocks are frequently of mixed varieties, of unsuitable types, or incorrectly named.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Expression Divergence in Response to Sex-biased Selection [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Biology and Evolution
Abstract It remains debated whether greater degrees of sexual dimorphism would evolve if not for intersexual genetic constraints. Here, we used experimental evolution to partially break the intersexual genetic constraint in Drosophila melanogaster to investigate the effects of a shared gene pool on the evolution of sexual dimorphism ...

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...
