Self-Sufficiency Assessment: Defining the Foodshed Spatial Signature of Supply Chains for Beef in Avignon, France

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
Foodshed approaches allow for the assessment of the theoretical food self-sufficiency capacity of a specific region based on biophysical conditions. Recent analyses show that the focus needs to be shifted from foodshed size portrayed as an isotropic ...

Logistic Challenges in the Short Food Supply Chains

open access: yesRegional and Business Studies, 2020
The aim of the Paper is to identify the types of short food supply chains (SFSCs), their spread today, and to demonstrate the advantages or disadvantages they provide, especially the logistical problems and solutions that can be identified in the chain.

Resilience of the Brazilian supply chains due to the impacts of Covid-19

open access: yesHolos, 2020
Unprecedented challenges have been imposed on global markets to minimise losses in the short and long supply chains. The purpose of this paper is to identify the impacts created by the Covid-19 pandemic on the short and long supply chains in Brazil. This

Exploring farmers' willingness to join short food supply chains [PDF]

open access: yesWestern Balkan Journal of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development
Romanian agriculture is dominated by numerous small and medium-sized producers, who barely manage to market their outputs. Scientists indicate that cooperation by forming short chains may overcome this situation, thus the paper explores the willingness ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Examination of Short Supply Chains Based on Circular Economy and Sustainability Aspects

open access: yesResources, 2019
The sustainability of global food chains and intense agricultural production has become questionable. At the same time, the consumers’ interest in short supply chains (SSCs) and direct sales from producers has increased.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Consumer perceptions, expectations and concerns regarding Short Food Supply Chains

open access: yes, 2021
Consumer behavior and perceptions of the food chain is important for the emergence of mass market alternatives. The central objective of the SMARTCHAIN project is to foster and accelerate the shift towards collaborative short food supply chains (SFSC ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
