Ultrahigh Resolution Structure of a Class A β-Lactamase: On the Mechanism and Specificity of the Extended-spectrum SHV-2 Enzyme

Journal of Molecular Biology, 2003
Bacterial beta-lactamases hydrolyze beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillins and cephalosporins. The TEM-type class A beta-lactamase SHV-2 is a natural variant that exhibits activity against third-generation cephalosporins normally resistant to hydrolysis by class A enzymes.

Role of contaminated aspiration tubes in nosocomial outbreak of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing SHV-2 and CTX-M-15 extended-spectrum β-lactamases

Journal of Hospital Infection, 2009
Klebsiella pneumoniae resistant to ceftazidime was isolated from ten neonates hospitalised between February and March 2006 in two Antananarivo hospitals, Madagascar. The main environmental source, for one hospital in particular, was the liquid used to rinse aspiration tubes in the paediatric wards.
