In a Tunisian hospital 27 babies, including 12 who were premature, in a single intensive care unit suffered acute gastroenteritis in the period from January to May 1988. The mean age at the onset of gastroenteritis was 8.4 days; nine babies died. Salmonella wien was isolated from stools (all babies) and blood (4 babies).

Six beta-lactamases from Klebsiella pneumoniae, five of which (SHV-1, SHV-2, SHV-3, SHV-4 and SHV-5) were plasmid-encoded and one which (beta 1a GN 11-03) was chromosomally-encoded, were compared by analysis of their isoelectric points (pI), electrophoresis mobilities (MF) and titration curves or pH gradient electrophoresis. Four groups were defined by

[Nucleotide sequence analysis of SHV-2 beta-lactamase gene in Enterobacter gergoviae].
Wei sheng wu xue bao = Acta microbiologica Sinica, 1994The extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESbla) gene on R-plasmid harbored in E. coli C3773, a transconjugant of the clinical isolate of Ent. gergoviae 3773 from our hospital, was cloned and two fragments were subcloned into M13. The nucleotide sequences of two fragments were determined. The primary structure of this ESbla deduced from nucleotide sequence

The aim of the present study was to investigate the antibiotic resistance profiles and the molecular epidemiology of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli isolates from two production swine operations in Sichuan Province, China, between August 2002 and February 2007. The prevalence of ESBL-producing E.

The first spanish outbreak of bacterial strains showing resistance to third generation cephalosporins and due to the presence of the extended spectrum beta-lactamase SHV-2 is reported. This outbreak was observed in Madrid during the years 1988-1990 and involved the San Carlos University Hospital with the same type of isolates at the Ramón y Cajal ...

[Titration curves (ph gradient electrophoresis) of SHV-1 and SHV-2 beta-lactamases and a new type].
Pathologie-biologie, 1988The molecular structures of the SHV-1 (p 453) and SHV-2 (pBP 60-1) beta-lactamases and of a new enzyme, a SHV-2 like extended broad-spectrum beta-lactamase (86-4), were compared by analysis of their titration curves (pH gradient electrophoresis). The titration curves of SHV-1 and SHV-2, which have the same isoelectric points (pI = 7.7). were completely

Kinetic constants were determined for two closely related plasmid-mediated beta-lactamases: SHV-2 and PIT-2 (also known as SHV-1). These enzymes were synthesized constitutively. They were highly sensitive to the action of the inhibitors clavulanic acid and sulbactam, and they lacked activity against cephamycins and also imipenem.

Extended spectrum beta-lactamases are plasmid-ediated enzymes that confer resistance to oxymino-beta-lactams that were designed to be effective against strains producing known plasmid mediated beta-lactamases. Apart of the type of beta-lactamase a very import factor in determination of resistance to oxymino beta-lactam is the amount of enzymes produced
