Combining motility and bioluminescent signalling aids mate finding in deep-sea fish: a simulation study [PDF]
We present a model to estimate the mean time required for mate finding among deep-sea fish as a function of motility and the extent of bioluminescent signalling.

Motivated by signal processing, we present a new class of channel codes, called signal codes, for continuous-alphabet channels. Signal codes are lattice codes whose encoding is done by convolving an integer information sequence with a fixed filter pattern.

ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate selumetinib exposure using therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) in pediatric patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and plexiform neurofibromas (PN), assess interpatient pharmacokinetic variability, and explore the relationship between drug exposure, clinical response, and adverse effects.

The evolution and comparative neurobiology of endocannabinoid signalling [PDF]
CB(1)- and CB(2)-type cannabinoid receptors mediate effects of the endocannabinoids 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) and anandamide in mammals. In canonical endocannabinoid-mediated synaptic plasticity, 2-AG is generated postsynaptically by diacylglycerol ...

ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are rare, high‐flow, vascular anomalies that can occur either sporadically or as part of a genetic syndrome. AVMs can progress with serious morbidity and even mortality if left unchecked. Sirolimus is an mTOR inhibitor that is effective in low‐flow vascular malformations; however, its role in AVMs is unclear.

Heterochronic faecal transplantation boosts gut germinal centres in aged mice
Microbiota impacts all major aspects of physiology, but little is known about its effects on age-related changes in immune responses. Here the authors show that gut microbiota transfer between adult and old mice increases local but not systemic germinal ...

Impairing the production of ribosomal RNA activates mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 signalling and downstream translation factors [PDF]
Ribosome biogenesis is a key process for maintaining protein synthetic capacity in dividing or growing cells, and requires coordinated production of ribosomal proteins and ribosomal RNA (rRNA), including the processing of the latter.

Indole as a regulator of bacterial physiology
During the last years, indole has been the subject of study, this is chemically defined as an aromatic bicyclic heterocycle, from the synthesis of tryptophan after its degradation by tryptophanase (TnaA); in turn has been implicated as a signalling ...

ABSTRACT Purpose Although not always achieved, complete chemotherapy‐induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) control is the conventional goal of CINV prophylaxis. In this two‐center, mixed‐methods study, we sought to understand the preferences of adolescent patients and family caregivers for CINV control endpoints.
