Long‐Term Control of Human Papillomavirus‐Related Focal Epithelial Hyperplasia in an Human Immunodeficiency Virus‐Positive Patient Using Methylene Blue‐Mediated Photodynamic Therapy. A Case Report

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are a major cause of oral lesions, and in individuals living with HIV, lesions such as focal epithelial hyperplasia (FEH) may persist or exhibit atypical features, potentially progressing to more severe conditions if untreated.

Emerging pharmacological treatments to prevent abdominal aortic aneurysm growth and rupture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a local expansion of the abdominal aorta wall caused by a complex multifactorial maladaptive vascular remodeling. Despite recent advances in the management of cardiovascular diseases, there currently is no established ...

Nanoformulated Diacerein Alleviates Hyperlipidemia via Gut Microbiota Modulation In Vivo

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
A nanoformulation of diacerein (Nano‐DIA) was fabricated with carboxymethyl cellulose, achieving enhanced solubility and rapid dissolution for alternative anti‐hyperlipidemia therapeutics. Mechanistic studies revealed its in vivo lipid‐lowering efficacy is through metabolite‐mediated and microbiota‐dependent manner, highlighting its dual action on host

The role of Coenzyme Q10 in statin-associated myopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Statins, or 3-hydroxyl-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors,\ud are cholesterol-lowering drugs which are frequently used in the primary and secondary\ud prevention of coronary artery disease. Current research and recommendations support\

The effect of atorvastatin on pancreatic beta cell requirement in women with polycystic ovary syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background There is an increased risk of developing T2DM in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and there is evidence that statins improve metabolic parameters in these patients.

Computational Evaluation of Statin Analogs Targeting HMG‐CoA Reductase for Coronary Artery Disease Treatment

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics analysis of novel statin analogs shows that binding induces superior stabilization of HMG‐CoA reductase. As shown by the solvent‐accessible surface area profile, ligand‐induced rigidity offers a new, effective strategy for drug design. Cardiovascular diseases remain a leading cause of global mortality.

Nanoplastics Impair GnRH Neuron Migration and Neuroendocrine Function: Emerging Players in the Pathogenesis of Reproductive Disorders

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Little is known about the effects of polystyrene nanoplastics (PS‐NPs) on gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons, which control puberty onset and fertility. By applying tailored in vitro GnRH neuron models, this article shows how PS‐NPs are internalized and impact hormone secretion and cell migration, through gene expression changes. Ultimately,

Simvastatin impairs murine melanoma growth

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2010
Background Statins induces cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, reduction of angiogenic factors, inhibition of the endothelial growth factor, impairing tissue adhesion and attenuation of the resistance mechanisms.

Intensive versus standard dose statin therapy: the costs and benefits for patients with acute coronary syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes
Introduction: Recent NICE guidance in England and Wales states that statin therapy for secondary CVD should "usually be initiated with a drug with a low acquisition cost (taking into account required daily dose and product price per dose)".

The role of statin drugs in combating cardiovascular diseases –A review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Statins clearly confer substantial benefit in people with established cardiovascular (CV) disease. Increased cholesterol levels have been associated with cardiovascular diseases (CVD), and statins are therefore used in the prevention of these diseases ...
