Single-crystal AlN nanonecklaces

Nanotechnology, 2008
Distinct single-crystal aluminum nitride nanonecklaces with uniform [1011] faceted beads are synthesized via catalyst-assisted nitriding of Al. The detailed morphology and structure of the nanonecklaces have been characterized. The growth process has been investigated by comparing the products obtained at different synthesis times.

Shaped protein single crystals

Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography, 1995
The formation of protein single crystals grown with the shape controlled by the geometry of the capillary used as a growth cell is presented. The shaped crystals show strong birefringence under crossed nicols and diffract as single crystals up to 1.74 A.

Single Crystal GaN Nanowires

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2001
Single crystal gallium nitride nanowires have been obtained by heating gallium acetylacetonate in the presence of carbon nanotubes or activated carbon in NH3 vapor at 910 degrees C. GaN nanowires also were obtained when the reaction of gallium acetylacetonate with NH3 was carried out over catalytic Fe/Ni particles dispersed over silica.

Single crystals of chitosan

International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 1990
Lamellar single crystals of chitosan were prepared at 125 degrees C by adding ammonia to a low DP fraction of chitosan dissolved in water. The crystals gave sharp electron diffraction diagrams which could be indexed in an orthorhombic P2(1)2(1)2(1) unit cell with a = 8.07 A, b = 8.44 A, c = 10.34 A.

Single crystal ↔ single crystal polymorphic transformations in K0.985Rb0.015NO3

Crystallography Reports, 2014
Polymorphic transformations in K0.985Rb0.015NO3 crystals have been investigated by optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The equilibrium temperature between modifications II and III (T0 = 450 K) and the unit-cell parameters of crystals of these modifications are determined.

Electrodeposited Ceramic Single Crystals

Science, 1999
Single-crystal films are essential for devices because the intrinsic properties of the material, rather than its grain boundaries, can be exploited. Cubic bismuth oxide has the highest known oxide ion mobility, which makes it useful for fuel cells and sensors, but it is normally only stable from 729° to 825°C.

Polymorphic single crystal ↔ single crystal transformations in Rb0.975Cs0.025NO3

Crystallography Reports, 2011
The crystal growth morphology of modifications IV, III, II, and I during the IV ↔ III ↔ II ↔ I polymorphic transformations in Rb0.975Cs0.025NO3 has been investigated by optical microscopy. The equilibrium temperatures between phases IV and III (T0 = 393 ± 0.5 K), III and II (T0 = 421 ± 0.5 K), and II and I (T0 = 497 ± 0.5 K) of the crystal studied have

Single-Crystal CdSe Nanosaws

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2003
We report the first successful synthesis and characterization of single-crystal wurtzite CdSe nanoribbons through a simple thermal evaporation process. Asymmetric growth of the nanoribbons occurs, yielding a sawlike shape with sharp teeth on one side. This asymmetric growth is suggested to be induced by the polarization of the c-plane in the wurtzite ...

Grin Single Crystal Fibres

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics-Europe, 1998
During the past two decades, crystal fibres of many materials have been produced by the Laser Heated Miniature Pedestal Growth technique for a very wide range of applications This paper describes altering the refractive index of lithium niobate fibres by the out-diffusion of lithium oxide [1] to obtain fibres with radial extraordinary refractive index ...

Irreversible single-crystal to polycrystal and reversible single-crystal to single-crystal phase transformations in cyanurates

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, 2001
4,6-Dimethoxy-3-methyldihydrotriazine-2-one (1) undergoes a single-crystal to single-crystal reversible phase transformation at 319 K. The low-temperature phase crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/n with two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit.
