Comparative Profiles of Lipophilic Nutrients and In Vitro Antioxidant Activity in Commercial Arabica and Robusta Green Coffee Beans

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
Integrated compositional profiling of ten commercial green coffee lots showed higher mean total phenolic content, DPPH radical‐scavenging activity, β‐carotene, and total phytosterols in Robusta‐labeled lots, whereas Arabica‐labeled lots showed higher mean total tocopherols and total measured fatty acids.

Food‐solicitation displays in nestling birds: still begging for answers

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nestling begging is a key model for understanding animal communication and parent–offspring conflict. Dynamic begging displays are often interpreted as costly, honest signals of need, with honesty maintained by viability costs, as proposed in Godfray's influential signalling model.

Low‐Dimensional Materials and Van Der Waals Heterostructures for Energy Application: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Low‐dimensional materials (0D, 1D, and 2D) exhibit unique electronic and physicochemical properties, enabling advanced nanoelectronic and optoelectronic devices. Mixed‐dimensional heterostructures combine these materials to enhance functionality.

Optimising the Eco‐Friendly Extraction of Carotenoids From Gac Fruit: A Sustainable Solution for Natural Red Food Colourants

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Gac fruit's high carotenoid content, especially in the aril, makes it an excellent natural red pigment source for food applications, offering a safer alternative to synthetic dyes. Ethanol extraction achieved the highest overall pigment recovery (89.53%), whereas ethyl lactate extraction yielded the highest levels of total carotenoids, β‐carotene ...

Pulsed Light Technology in Food Safety and Preservation: Principles, Applications, and Future Directions

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Pulsed light technology uses short high‐intensity broad‐spectrum flashes (200–1100 nm) to inactivate microbes via DNA damage. It preserves food quality, extends shelf life, and works on liquids, meats, and produce, often combined with other hurdles for enhanced efficacy.

Pumpkin and chia seeds as functional foods and their application in different food products: A review

open access: yesFood Biomacromolecules, EarlyView.
Abstract Functional foods have gained increasing attention for their capacity to promote health and reduce chronic‐disease risk beyond basic nutrition. Among plant‐based functional ingredients, pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.) and chia (Salvia hispanica L.) seeds are nutrient‐dense sources of proteins, unsaturated fatty acids, dietary fiber, tocopherols ...

Dietary lipid and astaxanthin contents affect the pigmentation of Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus)

open access: yesFood Production, Processing and Nutrition
The most important quality parameter of salmonids is the red color of their skin and muscles. In this contribution, the effects of astaxanthin and dietary lipid content on the pigmentation of Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus) were studied.

Valorization of Citrus Waste for Recovery of Nutritional and Bioactive Compounds: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
The various citrus wastes, including the citrus fruit peels, pulp remaining after extraction of juice, and seeds, are the sources of bioactive compounds. The waste parts of oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruits, and mandarins contain the bioactive compounds, flavonoids, ascorbic acid, essential oils, and carotenoids.

Genetic and Molecular Basis of Processing Traits and Genetic Improvement Progress in Major Fruit Crops

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food, EarlyView.
Processing quality in fruit crops is governed by complex genetic networks controlling texture, sweetness, color, browning, aroma, and nutritional quality. Advances in genomics, genomic selection, and genome editing enable the development of processing‐oriented cultivars with improved industrial performance, reduced postharvest losses, and enhanced ...

Identification of alleles of carotenoid pathway genes important for zeaxanthin accumulation in potato tubers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have investigated the genetics and molecular biology of orange flesh colour in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). To this end the natural diversity in three genes of the carotenoid pathway was assessed by SNP analyses.
