The Antiseptic Octenidine Inhibits Langerhans Cell Activation and Modulates Cytokine Expression upon Superficial Wounding with Tape Stripping

open access: yesJournal of Immunology Research, 2019
Ideal agents for the topical treatment of skin wounds should have antimicrobial efficacy without negative influence on wound healing. Octenidine (OCT) has become a widely used antiseptic in professional wound care, but its influence on several components

UV-independent induction of beta defensin 3 in neonatal human skin explants [v1; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/4s2]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2014
In order to determine the effect of UV radiation on β-defensin 3 (BD3) expression in human skin, freshly-isolated UV-naïve skin was obtained from newborn male infants undergoing planned circumcision.

Harnessing Natural Compounds in Psoriasis: Targeting Cellular Pathways for Effective Therapy

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Natural compounds act on key cellular pathways in psoriasis by suppressing keratinocyte hyperproliferation, modulating Th17/IL‐17‐mediated immune responses, and reducing oxidative stress. These multi‐target effects highlight their potential as safer adjunctive therapies alongside conventional treatments.

Radiological Findings Post Autologous Fat Grafting and Breasts Procedures: Avoiding False Positive Results

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
This article highlights the importance of understanding the imaging features and complications of fat necrosis and oil cysts to improve diagnostic accuracy and clinical management. A rational diagnostic sequence—emphasizing comparison with prior imaging, careful evaluation of morphological changes, and judicious use of biopsy—can reduce unnecessary ...

Isolation and characterization of neural crest progenitors from adult dorsal root ganglia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
After peripheral nerve injury, the number of sensory neurons in the adult dorsal root ganglia (DRG) is initially reduced but recovers to a normal level several months later. The mechanisms underlying the neuronal recovery after injury are not clear. Here,

Isolation of a New Strain of Cytomegalovirus from Explanted Normal Skin

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 1980
Forty-three fibroblast cell line were initiated from normal skin biopsies. One cell line from a patient with Charcot--Marie--Tooth disease (CMT) spontaneously developed c.p.e. suggestive of cytomegalovirus (CMV). Characterization of the virus showed it to be a new strain of CMV and the results suggested that skin fibroblasts from CMT patients may carry

Thrombospondin‐4 is upregulated in abdominal aortic aneurysm: A vasoprotective response with potential therapeutic relevance

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
TSP4 is upregulated in human and experimental AAA. TSP4 knockdown accelerated AAA formation and exacerbated both vascular inflammation and remodelling, emphasizing that TSP4 upregulation may represent a protective response against AAA. Our findings suggest that preserving TSP4 could be a useful strategy in the clinical management of AAA.
