The current practice of slide tracheoplasty for children with long-segment tracheal stenosis is reviewed. In our own series, the mortality for children with long-segment tracheal stenosis managed by slide tracheoplasty in the 5-year period between 1995 and 2000 was 43% (3/7), consistent with other series in the literature.

INTRODUCTIONWhen mounting sections on a slide, it is essential that the slide be ultraclean. To ensure that the section sticks to the slide, slides can be covered with a thin layer of gelatin. The process of cleaning and gelatin-coating is called “subbing.” Several boxes of slides should be subbed at a time and stored, covered, in the refrigerator ...

Although my discomfiture is directed at the lecturer, my criticism is of the slides used. I would like every lecturer and illustrator to vow never to use one slide if five will do better, and never to use a slide that needs a pointer.

Slide tracheoplasty, first described in 1989, has become the procedure of choice for long segment tracheal stenosis and complete tracheal rings. Although a challenging surgery with higher mortality than other open airway procedures, this technique offers a successful alternative for parents who just a couple decades ago had no reasonable surgical ...

Sliding knots can be performed in many situations during an arthroscopic procedure. Their use is possible in quite all conditions w here a tissue should be fixed using a suture as in rotator cuff tear repair or Bankart repair. Many knots are described and performed by arthroscopic surgeons.

Sliding plate and sliding cylinder rheometers
1993This chapter describes rheometers that are particularly advantageous for the generation of large, rapid, transient shear deformations in rheologi-cally complex materials. Such deformations are particularly useful for the study of time dependent structural changes and non-linear viscoelasticity. Sliding plate (plane Couette) flow is also useful when non-
